VASOTRATE-60 OD Isosorbide 60mg is used for the prophylactic and long-term treatment of angina pectoris, which is chest pain caused by insufficient oxygen supply to the heart due to coronary artery disease. This sustained-release product, which belongs to the nitrate class, works to relax and widen blood vessels, which reduces the workload on the heart. By decreasing the heart's oxygen demand and improving blood flow, it effectively prevents recurrent episodes of chest pain. It may also be administered alongside other products in the management of certain types of heart failure.

Side Effects

VASOTRATE-60 OD Isosorbide 60mg common side effects include: headaches, which are frequently experienced as the product begins to work and tend to lessen with continued use. Other possible side effects are dizziness, lightheadedness, especially when rising quickly, and flushing of the skin. Occasionally, users may experience nausea, vomiting, or a rapid and irregular heart rhythm (palpitations). Headaches that occur can often be managed with common pain relievers without reducing the effectiveness of the anti-anginal action.

Directions and Dosage

• Dosage for Adults (18+ years): The usual starting dosage is 30 mg or 60 mg once daily, taken in the morning. This may be increased to 120 mg once daily if necessary.

The maximum daily dosage is generally 120 mg once daily, but dosages up to 240 mg once daily are sometimes required. This sustained-release tablet should be taken whole. The product is not intended for use in individuals under 18 years of age.

Contraindications

The product must not be used by individuals with very low blood pressure, severe anemia, acute circulatory problems, or cardiogenic shock. It is also prohibited for those with increased pressure inside the head, such as from a head injury. A crucial contraindication is the simultaneous use of certain products for erectile dysfunction or pulmonary hypertension, as this can lead to a severe, life-threatening drop in systemic blood pressure.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

Use during pregnancy should be avoided unless the anticipated benefits outweigh the potential risks, as adequate human data are not available. It is not known if the active substance passes into milk, so the product should be used with caution during nursing periods.

Special Precautions

• Monitor for significant drops in blood pressure, especially in those already experiencing low blood pressure or low blood volume.
• The product is for prophylactic treatment and is ineffective for an acute episode of chest pain.
• Individuals with certain heart conditions, such as hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy, should use this product with care.
• Avoid abrupt cessation of use, as it may worsen the underlying condition.

Is it safe to take it with other medications?

Combination with products containing sildenafil, tadalafil, or vardenafil (used for erectile dysfunction) or riociguat (for pulmonary hypertension) is absolutely forbidden due to the risk of severe, uncontrolled hypotension. Concurrent use with other blood pressure-lowering products or alcohol may also significantly increase the risk of low blood pressure.

How should I store it?

Keep the tablet in a dry place at room temperature, ideally not exceeding 25°C. Ensure it is protected from light and moisture to maintain its potency.
