Indications / Uses

TELMISAR AM - 80 Telmisartan / Amlodipine 80 / 5 is used for the management of essential hypertension, commonly known as high blood pressure. This combination medication is suitable for individuals whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with either telmisartan or amlodipine monotherapy. It provides a greater reduction in blood pressure than either component used alone, effectively lowering the risk of severe cardiovascular events like strokes and heart attacks. This fixed-dose combination may also be utilized as a starting therapy in individuals likely to need multiple medications to meet their blood pressure goals.

Side Effects

TELMISAR AM - 80 Telmisartan / Amlodipine 80 / 5 common side effects include: swelling in the lower extremities (peripheral edema), dizziness, and back discomfort. Other reported adverse effects may involve a drop in blood pressure, a feeling of flushing (warmth or redness), and an abnormally fast or pounding heartbeat. In studies, peripheral edema, dizziness, and hypotension were among the most common reasons for treatment discontinuation. If a person experiences symptoms such as new or worsened chest pain, unexplained muscle weakness, or a light-headed sensation, attention is needed.

Directions and Dosage

• Dosage for Adults (18+ years): One 80 mg / 5 mg tablet once daily.
• The maximum daily dosage is one 80 mg / 10 mg tablet, achieved by increasing the amlodipine component if a larger blood pressure reduction is needed after at least 2 weeks of therapy.

This product is not recommended for individuals under 18 years of age due to lack of data on safety and efficacy. For individuals over 75 years of age, initial therapy with this combination is not recommended; a lower starting dose of the calcium channel blocker component should be considered if initiating treatment with the separate components.

Contraindications

The product is not suitable for individuals with a known hypersensitivity to the components or to any derivative of the calcium channel blocker group. It should also not be used during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy. Do not use this product simultaneously with the renin inhibitor aliskiren in individuals who have diabetes.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

The use of agents that act on the renin-angiotensin system during the last six months of pregnancy can cause injury or death to the developing fetus, and is therefore contraindicated. Discontinue the use of the product as soon as pregnancy is detected. Use while providing for an infant is not recommended due to the potential for serious side effects in the infant, such as low blood pressure and kidney impairment.

Special Precautions

• Observe caution when administering to individuals with liver impairment or severe kidney impairment; a slower adjustment may be needed.
• Monitor closely for signs of a severe drop in blood pressure, especially in individuals who may have a depletion of bodily fluids or salts.
• Regular assessment of heart function is recommended for individuals with a history of heart failure.
• Be aware of the potential for increased potassium levels in the blood.

Is it safe to take it with other medications?

Co-administration with other agents that reduce blood pressure may enhance the blood pressure-lowering effect. Concomitant use with aliskiren is strictly contraindicated in individuals with diabetes. Combination with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents may reduce the blood pressure effect and increase the risk of kidney function decline.

How should I store it?

Store in a dry environment at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Keep the tablets in the original packaging to protect them from moisture.
