Side Effects
RITEMED Atorvastatin 10mg common side effects include: nasopharyngitis, pain in the joints, pain in the extremities, headache, and mild nausea or diarrhea. Less frequently, but of greater concern, individuals may experience muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness (myopathy), which can rarely progress to a serious condition involving muscle breakdown. There is also a small risk of changes in liver enzyme levels, which may indicate liver problems.
Directions and Dosage
- Dosage for Adults: The usual starting dose is 10 mg or 20 mg once daily. For patients who need a substantial reduction in their LDL-C, a starting dose of 40 mg once daily may be used. The dosage range is 10 mg to 80 mg once daily.
- Dosage for Kids 10–17 years (for Heterozygous Familial Hypercholesterolemia): Initially 10 mg once daily. The dose can be adjusted, not to exceed 20 mg once daily.
The maximum daily dosage is 80 mg once daily for adults and 20 mg once daily for most children/adolescents with HeFH. Lipid levels should be monitored and dosage adjusted every 2 to 4 weeks based on response and therapeutic goals.
Contraindications
This product should not be used by individuals with active liver disease, which includes unexplained persistent elevations in liver enzyme test results. It is also prohibited for people with a known allergy to the active component or any other ingredients in the tablet. It should also be avoided during pregnancy and while nursing a baby.
Use in Pregnancy and Lactation
This product is strictly not allowed for use during pregnancy because the components are crucial for fetal development. Women of childbearing age should use effective birth control while taking this product. Since it is not known if the active substance passes into breast milk, women should not use this product while nursing an infant.
Special Precautions
- Before starting therapy, an attempt should be made to control elevated lipid levels with a suitable diet, exercise, and weight reduction.
- It is important to limit the consumption of alcohol, as excessive intake may increase the risk of liver side effects.
- Use with caution in individuals with a history of liver disease.
- If unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness occurs, the use should be promptly discontinued.
Is it safe to take it with other medications?
Use with caution alongside certain medications, especially those that can increase the risk of muscle problems, such as some antifungal agents, macrolide antibiotics, and HIV protease inhibitors. Avoid excessive consumption of grapefruit juice, which can raise the concentration of the active component in the blood and increase side effects.
