Indications / Uses

LOSSAR XQ Losartan / Amlodipine 100mg / 5mg is used for the management of mild to moderate hypertension (high blood pressure). It is typically indicated when blood pressure is not adequately controlled with a single medication (monotherapy) that is either a calcium channel blocker or an angiotensin II receptor blocker. The combination of the two components works synergistically to help lower high blood pressure and reduce the risk of associated cardiovascular events.

Side Effects

LOSSAR XQ Losartan / Amlodipine 100mg / 5mg common side effects include headache, dizziness, and swelling, particularly of the ankles and feet (peripheral edema), which is often associated with the calcium channel blocker component. Other reported adverse effects can involve fatigue, flushing (a sense of warmth in the face), heart palpitations, and gastrointestinal disturbances like nausea or abdominal pain. These effects are generally mild to moderate and may diminish with continued treatment.

Directions and Dosage

• Dosage for Adults (18+ years): The usual recommended dose is 1 tablet daily.

If blood pressure control remains inadequate after 1 to 2 weeks, the dose may be adjusted based on individual response. Not recommended for children and adolescents under 18 years of age as safety and effectiveness have not been established. The duration of treatment is determined by the underlying chronic condition being managed.

Contraindications

This product is strictly contraindicated for individuals who are known to have a severe sensitivity to the active substances or any of the non-active components. It should not be used in patients with severe hepatic impairment, or those experiencing cardiogenic shock.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

Use is not recommended during pregnancy, particularly during the second and third trimesters, as medicines that act on the renin-angiotensin system can cause injury and death to the developing fetus. Since it is unknown if the components are excreted in human milk, discontinuing use while nursing is recommended.

Special Precautions

• Caution is advised in patients whose cardiac reserve is poor, in those with severe heart failure, or immediately following a heart attack.
• Use with care in individuals with impaired kidney function, including those with bilateral renal artery stenosis.
• Lower starting doses or careful monitoring may be necessary for patients with reduced liver function or those who are severely volume-depleted.
• A sudden reduction in blood pressure may lead to symptoms like lightheadedness or weakness, especially when standing up.

Is it safe to take it with other medications?

Co-administration with potassium-sparing diuretics or potassium supplements is generally avoided due to the potential risk of elevated blood potassium levels. The combined use with some anti-inflammatory medicines may reduce its effect in lowering blood pressure. It may also interact with lithium, requiring careful monitoring of serum levels.

How should I store it?

Store in a cool, dry environment, at temperatures not exceeding 30°C. Keep the tablets protected from moisture and light to maintain their potency.
