Description

Indications / Uses

IRBEQ Irbesartan 300mg is used for the management of high blood pressure, often referred to as essential hypertension, and may be used alone or in combination with other blood pressure-lowering agents. It is also specifically indicated to treat renal disease in individuals who have high blood pressure and concomitant Type 2 diabetes. This medication functions as an Angiotensin II Receptor Blocker (ARB), preventing the action of a naturally occurring substance that causes blood vessels to narrow. By blocking this action, it helps the blood vessels relax, thereby lowering blood pressure and offering protection against kidney function decline.

Side Effects

IRBEQ Irbesartan 300mg common side effects include: dizziness, particularly when transitioning from a sitting or lying position to standing (orthostatic hypotension), and general feelings of fatigue or tiredness. Other frequent, but generally mild, side effects involve disturbances in the digestive system such as heartburn, diarrhea, and abdominal or stomach pain. Rarely, more serious effects can involve a decrease in blood hemoglobin levels or severe allergic reactions like swelling of the face, lips, or tongue.

Directions and Dosage

  • Dosage for Adults (Hypertension): Initial dose of 150 mg once daily. Dose may be increased to 300 mg once daily for those who require further blood pressure reduction.
  • Dosage for Adults (Diabetic Kidney Disease): 300 mg once daily is the preferred maintenance dosage.

Not recommended for children and adolescents under 18 years of age. The maximum daily dosage is generally 300 mg. The maximum blood pressure-lowering effect is often reached 4 to 6 weeks after starting treatment, and therapy is usually long-term.

Contraindications

This product is strictly contraindicated for individuals who are allergic to the active ingredient or any of its components. It must not be taken by women who are more than 3 months pregnant. Additionally, it should not be used in individuals with diabetes or impaired kidney function who are already receiving a medicine containing aliskiren.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

The substance can cause harm or fatality to the developing fetus, particularly during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy. It is recommended to avoid its use throughout pregnancy. It is unknown if the substance is excreted into mother's milk, so caution is advised during breastfeeding.

Special Precautions

  • Use with extreme caution in individuals who are volume-depleted from excessive vomiting, diarrhea, or high-dose diuretic therapy, as this can lead to severely low blood pressure.
  • Requires regular monitoring of blood potassium and kidney function, especially in individuals with existing kidney impairment or diabetes.
  • Caution is necessary for individuals with certain heart conditions, such as narrowing of the heart valves or an enlarged heart muscle.

Is it safe to take it with other medications?

Coadministration with other agents that lower blood pressure, such as certain pain relievers, may worsen kidney function. Combining it with products that raise potassium, like some salt substitutes, may lead to dangerously high potassium levels. It can also increase the concentration of lithium in the body.

How should I store it?

Keep the tablets at room temperature, ideally between 20°C and 25°C. Store it away from light, moisture, and do not freeze the medication.
