EXFORGE Amlodipine / Valsartan 10 / 160 is used for the treatment of high blood pressure (hypertension). It may be used in adults whose blood pressure is not adequately managed by either amlodipine or valsartan alone (monotherapy). This combination medicine is also suitable as an initial therapy for patients who are likely to require multiple medications to achieve their blood pressure goals.

Side Effects
EXFORGE Amlodipine / Valsartan 10 / 160 common side effects include: swelling of the legs or feet (edema) and dizziness or a spinning sensation. Other common reactions are headache, fatigue, a general feeling of weakness, and cold-like symptoms such as stuffy nose, sneezing, or sore throat. Less common effects can involve a rapid heart rate, palpitations, diarrhea, nausea, and dry mouth. In rare instances, more serious effects like severe swelling of the face, lips, or throat, or signs of high blood potassium may occur.
Directions and Dosage
- Dosage for Adults: The usual starting and recommended dose is 1 tablet once daily.
- The dose may be increased after at least 2 weeks of therapy, but should not exceed 10 mg of the first component and 320 mg of the second component per day.
Not recommended for individuals under 18 years old. The product is intended for chronic use to control high blood pressure.
Contraindications
Should not be used by individuals with a known hypersensitivity to the active substances or to dihydropyridine derivatives. The fixed-dose combination is not recommended for individuals with severe liver problems, a condition where bile flow is impaired, or severe kidney problems. It is also contraindicated if an individual has diabetes and is concurrently using products containing aliskiren.
Use in Pregnancy and Lactation
Use during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy can cause harm or death to the developing baby. Use should be discontinued as soon as possible if pregnancy is detected. It is generally not advised for use while breastfeeding due to the potential presence of components in the milk.
Special Precautions
- Caution is advised for individuals with volume or salt depletion (e.g., those on high-dose water pills).
- Use with care in individuals who have heart problems such as severe narrowing of the aortic or mitral valves, or heart failure.
- Monitoring may be needed for those with kidney problems, including renal artery stenosis or those who have had a recent kidney transplant.
- Individuals with liver impairment should use this combination with caution.
Is it safe to take it with other medications?
Taking it alongside other medications, particularly potassium supplements or potassium-sparing diuretics, may result in an increase in blood potassium levels. The blood pressure-lowering effect may also be reduced when taken with certain anti-inflammatory products. Caution is needed with concurrent use of some cholesterol-lowering agents and other products that affect the renin-angiotensin system.
How should I store it?
Keep the product at room temperature. Protect from moisture and excessive heat. Do not store it above 30°C.
