Furthermore, it is prescribed to decrease the substantial risk of major cardiovascular events like heart attack and stroke in high-risk individuals.

Directions and Dosage

• Dosage for Adults (18+ years - High Risk/Cardiovascular): The usual starting dose for high-risk prevention is 40 mg, taken once daily.
• Dosage for Adults (General Maintenance): The daily dosage typically ranges from 5 mg to 40 mg, taken once per day.

Not recommended for children under 10 years of age. The maximum daily dosage is 40 mg. Therapy for managing cholesterol levels is usually a long-term commitment.

Contraindications

This medication is strictly unsuitable for anyone with active disease affecting the liver or unexplained, ongoing elevations in liver enzyme levels. It is also forbidden for women who are pregnant or nursing. Use is prohibited when taking certain potent antifungal agents, macrolide antibacterial agents, or specific medicines for HIV.
