Indications / Uses

CANDESAPH-16 Candesartan 16mg is used for the management of high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults, helping to lower elevated blood pressure and reduce the overall risk of heart attacks and strokes. It may be used on its own or as part of a combination therapy with other blood pressure-lowering agents. Furthermore, it is also indicated for the treatment of heart failure in adult patients with impaired left ventricular systolic function (ejection fraction $\le40\%$) to decrease cardiovascular mortality and hospitalization.

Side Effects

CANDESAPH-16 Candesartan 16mg common side effects include: respiratory tract infections, back pain, headache, and dizziness. Other frequently reported effects are fatigue, nausea, and diarrhea. In some individuals, particularly those with heart failure, a significant drop in blood pressure (hypotension) may occur, especially during initial dosing adjustments. Less common but important effects may involve changes in renal function or increased potassium levels in the blood.

Directions and Dosage

• Dosage for Adults (18+ years) for Hypertension: Initial dose is 16 mg once daily. The total daily dose typically ranges from 8 mg to 32 mg, administered once or twice a day.
• Dosage for Adults (18+ years) for Heart Failure: Initial dose is 4 mg once daily. The amount is usually doubled at intervals of at least 2 weeks up to a maximum target dose of 32 mg once daily.

The blood pressure response is related to the amount taken and is usually maximized within 4 to 6 weeks. Not recommended for children under 1 year of age. Adjustment of the amount may be necessary for those with kidney or liver impairment.

Contraindications

Do not use this product if there is a known sensitivity to the main component or any of the inactive ingredients. It is also not suitable for individuals with severe liver problems or a blockage of bile flow (cholestasis). Concurrent use with a blood pressure medication containing aliskiren is not allowed in individuals who have diabetes or kidney impairment.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

Use of this product during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy can severely harm the unborn child. When pregnancy is detected, stop taking the medication as soon as possible. It is unknown whether the active substance passes into breast milk, but because of the potential for adverse effects on the nursing infant, a decision to stop nursing or stop the medicine is necessary.

Special Precautions

• Cautious use is required when initiating therapy, particularly in individuals who have volume depletion or low salt levels, as this can lead to excessive blood pressure reduction.
• Monitor kidney function in individuals, especially those with severe heart failure or a pre-existing condition affecting the blood vessels of the kidneys.
• Observe caution when administering to those with a recent history of swelling of the face, lips, throat, and tongue (angioedema).
• Individuals with relevant aortic or mitral valve stenosis, or obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, should use this product with care.

Is it safe to take it with other medications?

Concomitant use with certain medications, such as potassium supplements or potassium-sparing water pills, can increase potassium levels in the blood. Using it with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents may increase the risk of kidney problems. Simultaneous use with a blood pressure medication called aliskiren is not recommended in patients with specific conditions.

How should I store it?

Store this medicine at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Protect it from exposure to light and moisture to maintain its effectiveness.
