HAEMOREX Tranexamic Acid 500mg is used for the short-term management and prevention of excessive bleeding across various medical conditions where there is excessive breakdown of blood clots. As an antifibrinolytic agent, it works by inhibiting the process that dissolves blood clots, thereby stabilizing the clot and promoting coagulation. Key uses include the treatment of heavy menstrual bleeding (menorrhagia) and bleeding related to surgical procedures, dental extractions, and local fibrinolysis. This medication helps control internal bleeding by supporting the body's natural clotting mechanisms.

Side Effects

HAEMOREX Tranexamic Acid 500mg common side effects include: gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, which are typically mild and often resolve when the daily intake is reduced. Other commonly reported effects are dizziness, headache, abdominal discomfort, and back pain. Less frequent but notable effects can involve allergic skin reactions, or in rare circumstances, disturbances in color vision, which require immediate discontinuation. Very rarely, there have been reports of blood clotting in other parts of the body.

Directions and Dosage

• Dosage for Adults (Heavy Periods): The suggested dose is 1000 mg (2 units) three times a day for a maximum duration of 4 days. The total daily intake should not be more than 4000 mg (8 units).
• Dosage for Adults (General Local Bleeding): Dosage typically ranges from 1000 mg (2 units) to 1500 mg (3 units) two or three times daily, based on body weight.
• Dosage for Kids (over 2 years old): Dosage should be calculated based on body weight at 25 mg per kilogram per dose, administered two or three times daily.

The duration of treatment should be limited to the short-term management of acute bleeding episodes. Not generally recommended for infants under 2 years old due to limited data.

Contraindications

Avoid use in individuals with an active or previous history of blood clotting disorders, such as deep vein or lung clots. It should not be used in cases of severe kidney impairment or in those with a history of fits or seizures. The product is also contraindicated for certain types of bleeding in the brain or acquired problems with color vision.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

Use during pregnancy may carry a risk to the fetus, particularly an effect on the baby's heart rate if used in the later stages. The substance is known to pass into the mother's milk, but the concentration is generally low, making an antifibrinolytic effect on the nursing child unlikely when administered at standard amounts.
