PIDCLIN Doxycycline 100mg is used for the treatment of numerous infections caused by susceptible organisms. This broad-spectrum activity covers various respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, and skin conditions such as severe inflammatory acne. It is also indicated as a treatment for sexually transmitted infections, including those caused by Chlamydia trachomatis and uncomplicated gonorrhea, and as prophylaxis against malaria.

Side Effects
PIDCLIN Doxycycline 100mg common side effects include gastrointestinal issues such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. A notable reaction is photosensitivity, which increases the skin's sensitivity to sunlight, requiring increased protection against exposure. Other reactions may include skin rashes and headache. If taken without sufficient fluid or while lying down, it may lead to irritation or ulceration of the food pipe.
Directions and Dosage
- Dosage for Adults: Initial dose is 200 mg (two 100 mg capsules) on the first day, taken as 100 mg every 12 hours. This is followed by a maintenance dose of 100 mg daily. For more severe infections, 100 mg every 12 hours may be required for the entire treatment course.
- Dosage for Kids 8 years and older (weighing 45 kg or more): Same dosage schedule as adults.
- Dosage for Kids 8 years and older (weighing less than 45 kg): 4.4 mg per kg of body weight, divided into 2 doses, on the first day. This is followed by 2.2 mg per kg of body weight daily as a single dose or divided into two doses.
Maximum daily dosage for most conditions is 200 mg, though up to 600 mg daily may be used for specific acute infections. Not recommended for children under 8 years of age. Treatment duration depends on the specific infection being treated.
Contraindications
This product should not be used in individuals with a known hypersensitivity to medicines in the tetracycline group. Use is contraindicated in children under 8 years of age due to the risk of permanent discoloration of the teeth.
Use in Pregnancy and Lactation
Tetracycline-class medicines, when used during the latter half of pregnancy, can cause permanent discoloration of the baby's teeth and impact bone development. Exposure during this period should be avoided.
Special Precautions
- Avoid lying down immediately after taking the product to minimize the risk of irritation to the food pipe.
- Increased sensitivity to sunlight (photosensitivity) may occur, requiring minimization of sun exposure.
- Discontinue immediately if any signs of a severe skin reaction or vision disturbances develop.
- Use with caution in the presence of impaired liver function.
Is it safe to take it with other medications?
The absorption of this product is significantly reduced when taken with preparations containing aluminum, calcium, magnesium, iron, or zinc. It may also decrease the effectiveness of certain forms of birth control and potentially alter the effects of blood-thinning medicines.
