Side Effects
METROZOLE Metronidazole 500mg common side effects include: gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal cramping. A distinctive, unpleasant metallic taste in the mouth is also frequently reported, along with headache, glossitis, and dry mouth. Directions and Dosage
- Dosage for Adults and Adolescents: For many infections, 500 mg every 8 hours is common. For specific conditions like Trichomoniasis, a 2 g single dose or 250 mg to 500 mg taken 2 to 3 times daily for 5 to 7 days may be used. Maximum daily dosage should generally not exceed 4000 mg (4 g).
- Dosage for Kids 1 - 12 years old: Dosage is calculated based on body weight, typically ranging from 35 mg to 50 mg per kg of body weight daily, divided into 3 doses.
- Dosage for Infants 8 weeks to 12 years old (Anaerobic): 7.5 mg per kg of body weight every 8 hours for a usual duration of 7 days.
Treatment duration typically ranges from 5 to 10 days, depending on the infection being managed.
Contraindications
Avoid use if there is a known sensitivity or allergic reaction to the active compound or any other substances belonging to the nitroimidazole class.
Use in Pregnancy and Lactation
The active compound is transferred into milk. A temporary change in feeding method may be necessary during treatment and for a period of 48 hours after the final administration.
