Side Effects
MEDUXIME Cefuroxime 500mg common side effects include: nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Other side effects may include headaches or a general feeling of discomfort. More serious, but less common side effects, can include severe diarrhea with bloody stools, fever, or signs of an allergic reaction such as hives and swelling.
Directions and Dosage
- Adults (18+ years): 250 mg to 500 mg every 12 hours for 5 to 10 days, depending on the infection.
- Adolescents (13 - 17 years): 250 mg to 500 mg every 12 hours for 5 to 10 days.
- Children (3 months to 12 years): The dosage is based on body weight, typically 20 to 30 mg per kg of body weight per day, divided into two doses.
The total daily dose should not exceed 1000 mg. For uncomplicated gonorrhea, a single 1 gram dose is used. For early Lyme disease, the treatment is typically for 20 days. Safety and efficacy have not been established for infants under 3 months of age.
Contraindications
This medicine should be avoided by individuals with a known hypersensitivity to the ingredients or to other cephalosporin antibiotics. Use with caution if there is a history of a penicillin allergy.
Use in Pregnancy and Lactation
Safety has not been established. It is not known if the medicine is excreted in breast milk.
Special Precautions
