Indications / Uses of LEVEFLOX-500 Levofloxacin 500mg Tablet
Levofloxacin is a quinolone antibiotic that targets and kills bacteria causing infections. They are used in adults, including the elderly, to treat various infections, including those of the sinuses, lungs (especially in patients with chronic breathing issues or pneumonia), urinary tract (bladder and kidneys), skin and soft tissue, and the prostate gland. Additionally, they may be used in specific cases to reduce the risk of developing or worsening anthrax after exposure to its bacteria.
What are the side-effects of LEVEFLOX-500 Levofloxacin 500mg Tablet?
Like all medications, Levofloxacin can cause side effects, usually mild to moderate.
Seek immediate medical help if you experience:
Very Rare:
- Allergic reactions (rash, breathing issues, swelling).
Rare:
- Watery diarrhea (possibly with blood), stomach cramps, high temperature (severe bowel issue).
- Tendon pain/inflammation (risk of tendon rupture, especially Achilles).
- Seizures (fits).
Very Rare:
- Burning, tingling, pain, or numbness (potential neuropathy).
Not Known:
- Severe skin rashes (blistering or peeling).
- Signs of liver issues (loss of appetite, yellowing skin/eyes, dark urine, abdominal pain).
If you notice any eye disturbances, consult an eye specialist immediately.
Dosage / Direction for Use of LEVEFLOX-500 Levofloxacin 500mg Tablet
Adults, including the Elderly
Sinus Infections; Lung Infections (with long-term breathing problems); Urinary Tract Infections (including kidneys or bladder); Prostate Gland Infections
- Two 250mg tablets once daily, or one 500mg tablet once daily.
Pneumonia, & Skin and Soft Tissue Infections
- Two 250mg tablets once or twice daily, or one 500mg tablet once or twice daily.
Note:
For adults with kidney problems, a lower dose may be required.
Not for use in children or adolescents.

Contraindications
Do not take Levofloxacin and consult your doctor if you:
- Are allergic to levofloxacin or other quinolone antibiotics (e.g., moxifloxacin, ciprofloxacin, ofloxacin).
- Have a history of epilepsy.
- Have experienced tendon problems (e.g., tendonitis) related to quinolone antibiotics.
- Are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or think you may be pregnant.
- Are breastfeeding.
- Are a child or adolescent.
If unsure, consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medication.
Special Precautions
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Levofloxacin if you:
- Are 60 years or older.
- Use corticosteroids (steroids).
- Have a history of seizures.
- Have had brain damage due to stroke or injury.
- Have kidney problems.
- Have glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency (increased risk of blood issues).
- Have heart problems or a family history of heart conditions, including prolonged QT interval or bradycardia.
- Have a history of mental health issues.
- Have been diagnosed with an aortic aneurysm or had a previous aortic dissection.
- Have leaking heart valves or a family history of related conditions.
- Are diabetic.
- Have a history of liver problems.
- Have myasthenia gravis.
- Experience sudden, severe abdominal, chest, or back pain (possible aortic issues).
- Notice rapid shortness of breath, especially when lying down, or swelling in the ankles, feet, or abdomen, or new heart palpitations.
If any of these apply, consult your doctor before taking the medication.

Not for use in children or adolescents.
Pregnancy, Breastfeeding, and Fertility:
Do not take Levofloxacin if you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant, or plan to become pregnant. Additionally, avoid this medication if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed.
Levofloxacin may cause side effects such as dizziness, sleepiness, vertigo, or changes in eyesight. These can impair your concentration and reaction speed. If you experience any of these effects, do not drive or operate machinery.
Is it safe to take Levofloxacin 500mg Tablet with other drugs?
It's important to inform your doctor or pharmacist about any medications you are currently taking, have recently taken, or plan to take, including those obtained without a prescription.
Do not take Levofloxacin at the same time as:
- Iron tablets (for anemia)
- Zinc supplements
- Magnesium or aluminum-containing antacids (for acid or heartburn)
- Didanosine
- Sucralfate (for stomach ulcers)
These medications can affect how Levofloxacin works.
Certain medications can increase the risk of side effects when taken with Levofloxacin:
- Corticosteroids: Increased risk of tendon inflammation or rupture.
- Warfarin: Higher bleeding risk; regular blood tests may be needed.
- Theophylline: Increased likelihood of seizures.
- NSAIDs (e.g., aspirin, ibuprofen): Also increase seizure risk.
- Ciclosporin: Greater chance of experiencing its side effects.
- Probenecid and Cimetidine: Require caution, especially in patients with kidney problems; a lower dose may be needed.
- Heart Rhythm Medications: Includes anti-arrhythmics, tricyclic antidepressants, antipsychotics, and certain macrolide antibiotics, which may affect heart function.

Mga Indikasyon / Gamit ng LEVEFLOX-500 Levofloxacin 500mg Tablet
Ang Levofloxacin ay isang quinolone antibiotic na tumutok at pumapatay sa mga bakterya na nagdudulot ng impeksyon. Ginagamit ito sa mga matatanda, kabilang ang mga nakatatanda, upang gamutin ang iba’t ibang impeksyon, kasama na ang mga sa sinus, baga (lalo na sa mga pasyenteng may malala na problema sa paghinga o pneumonia), urinary tract (pantog at bato), balat at malambot na tisyu, at sa prostate gland.
