Indications / Uses

IFAMSO PE Rifampicin / Isoniazid / Pyrazinamide / Ethambutol is used for the treatment of both pulmonary and extra-pulmonary tuberculosis caused by susceptible strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. This fixed-dose combination therapy is specifically indicated for the intensive phase of short-course chemotherapy. It helps simplify treatment regimens and improves patient compliance by reducing the number of individual tablets required during the initial phase of TB therapy.

Side Effects

Directions and Dosage

  • Dosage for Adults (30–39 kg): 2 tablets daily.
  • Dosage for Adults (40–54 kg): 3 tablets daily.
  • Dosage for Adults (55–70 kg): 4 tablets daily.
  • Dosage for Adults (Over 70 kg): 5 tablets daily.

Dosage is based on body weight. Tablets should be taken once daily, preferably 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal. Treatment duration is typically 2 months for the intensive phase.

Contraindications

Avoid use in cases of hypersensitivity to any of the components. Contraindicated in individuals with severe liver disease, acute gout, or optic neuritis. Not suitable for patients with a history of drug-induced hepatitis.

Special Precautions

  • Regular monitoring of liver function and vision is necessary during therapy.
  • Patients with pre-existing renal impairment require careful dosage adjustments.
  • Chronic alcohol consumption increases the risk of hepatotoxicity.

Certain medicines for epilepsy, blood thinning, or fungal infections may interact poorly. Antacids can reduce the absorption of the ingredients if taken simultaneously.
