FLOXA-400 Ofloxacin 400mg is used for the treatment of various bacterial infections in adults, targeting a broad spectrum of susceptible organisms across different body systems. This dosage is commonly utilized for complex or severe infections of the lower respiratory tract, as well as complicated urinary tract infections. It is also employed for treating certain severe skin and soft tissue infections, and specific sexually transmitted diseases like urethral and cervical gonorrhea.

Side Effects

FLOXA-400 Ofloxacin 400mg common side effects include: gastrointestinal complaints such as nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, and abdominal discomfort. Nervous system effects like headache, dizziness, and insomnia are also frequently reported. More serious adverse events involve the musculoskeletal system, including the risk of tendinitis and tendon rupture, and potential damage to the peripheral nerves which can result in pain or weakness. Use should be discontinued immediately if any signs of tendon issues or nerve symptoms develop.

Directions and Dosage

• Dosage for Adults (18+ years): For severe or complicated infections, the dosage is typically 400 mg taken one or two times daily. For less complicated infections, 200 mg to 400 mg every 12 hours may be used.
• Maximum Daily Dosage (Adults): The standard maximum daily intake is 800 mg. For very severe or complicated infections, a higher dosage of up to 1200 mg daily may be used.
• Dosage for Kids and Adolescents: Use in individuals under 18 years of age is generally restricted due to safety concerns regarding the development of weight-bearing joints.

The standard duration of treatment typically ranges from 3 to 14 days, depending on the site and severity of the infection being treated.

Contraindications

Avoid use in individuals with known hypersensitivity to the compound or to any related quinolone or fluoroquinolone antimicrobial substances. It is also strictly prohibited for individuals with a history of epilepsy or certain central nervous system disorders that increase the risk of seizures, or a history of tendon problems related to previous quinolone use.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

This compound is known to pass into maternal milk. Due to the potential for adverse effects on the musculoskeletal development of the infant, the product should not be used during this period, and alternative feeding methods are required.

Special Precautions

• There is an increased risk of tendon rupture, particularly in older individuals and those taking corticosteroids, requiring immediate cessation at the first sign of pain.
• The compound should be used with caution in individuals with conditions that predispose to seizures or those with reduced kidney function.
• Avoid excessive exposure to strong sunlight or UV light during treatment due to the risk of severe skin sensitivity.

Is it safe to take it with other medications?

Taking it with mineral-containing antacids, iron supplements, or zinc products can significantly reduce the absorption of the active compound. It may also enhance the effect of blood-thinning medications and increase the risk of toxicity when taken alongside theophylline or certain non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents.
