CLOXID Cloxacillin 250mg is used for the treatment of infections caused by bacteria known to produce an enzyme that inactivates standard penicillins, such as certain strains of Staphylococcus. This preparation is specifically effective against various infections of the skin and underlying soft tissues, including infected wounds, boils, and cellulitis. It is also indicated for managing serious systemic conditions like septicemia, as well as infections affecting the respiratory system, bones, and joints. The medication works by disrupting the bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to the destruction of the infectious organisms.

Occasionally, there may be temporary, minor changes in laboratory results concerning liver function.

Directions and Dosage

• Dosage for Adults & Adolescents (12+ years): 250 mg to 500 mg, taken every 6 hours (4 times per day).
• Dosage for Kids (under 12 years): 125 mg to 250 mg, taken every 6 hours.

Dosage for younger children and infants is highly dependent on body weight. Do not exceed a maximum daily dosage of 4000 mg (16 capsules) without medical supervision. The duration of treatment is typically 7 to 14 days, depending on the severity of the infection.

Contraindications

The use of this preparation is strictly forbidden in individuals with a known severe sensitivity to penicillins. It is also contraindicated for anyone who has experienced an allergic reaction to other compounds belonging to the beta-lactam class of antibacterial agents.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

The compound can cross the placental barrier and is excreted into mother's milk. While use is often necessary, the substance may cause mild digestive issues, oral fungal infections, or allergic sensitization in the nursing infant.
