CLORMED Cefaclor 250mg / 5mL Suspension is used for the management of various infections caused by susceptible bacteria. This includes infections of the respiratory tract, such as pneumonia, acute bronchitis, tonsillitis, pharyngitis, and sinusitis. It is also indicated for the treatment of otitis media, skin and soft tissue infections, and certain urinary tract infections. This medication works by stopping the growth of the infecting bacteria.

Side Effects
CLORMED Cefaclor 250mg / 5mL Suspension common side effects include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and headache. Other frequently reported effects involve stomach pain, genital itching, and maculopapular skin rashes. More serious effects, while less common, may include hypersensitivity reactions, drug-induced fever, and symptoms resembling serum sickness.
Directions and Dosage
- Dosage for Adults: 250mg every 8 hours. For more severe infections or those caused by less susceptible organisms, the dose may be doubled.
- Dosage for Kids (1 month and up): The recommended daily dosage is 20 mg/kg of body weight per day, divided into 3 doses, taken every 8 hours. This may be increased to 40 mg/kg daily for otitis media and other serious infections.
The total daily dose for any patient should not exceed 1g. For the treatment of certain infections, therapy must be continued for at least 10 days. Not recommended for infants under 1 month.
Contraindications
The product is contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity to this class of antibiotics, specifically the cephalosporins. Caution should also be exercised in those with a history of allergy to penicillin, due to the potential for cross-hypersensitivity reactions.
Special Precautions
- Caution is advised for those who have experienced allergic reactions to penicillin.
- Use with care in individuals with a history of gastrointestinal diseases, particularly colitis.
- If used for prolonged or high-dose courses, monitoring of kidney and blood status is necessary.
Is it safe to take it with other medications?
Taking this medication with blood thinners may increase the blood thinning effect, requiring careful observation. This antibiotic may also decrease the effectiveness of hormonal contraceptives, meaning alternative birth control methods may be needed.
How should I store it?
Keep the granules at temperatures under 30°C. Once prepared, the liquid suspension must be kept refrigerated and should not be used after 14 days.
