CLINDASAPH Clindamycin 150mg is used for the treatment of serious infections caused by susceptible anaerobic bacteria, as well as infections involving Gram-positive cocci such as streptococci, staphylococci, and pneumococci. It is effective for respiratory tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, bone and joint infections, and intra-abdominal infections. This antibiotic works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis to stop the growth of bacteria.

Side Effects

Directions and Dosage

  • Adults (18+ years): 150 mg to 450 mg every 6 hours depending on the severity of the infection.
  • Children (above 1 month): 8 to 25 mg/kg daily, divided into 3 or 4 equal doses.
  • Infants (under 1 month): 15 to 20 mg/kg daily, divided into 3 or 4 equal doses.

Dosage is determined by the severity of the infection and the weight of the patient. Maximum treatment duration is typically 7 to 14 days. Not recommended for infants under 1 month without specific clinical necessity.

Contraindications

Avoid use if there is a known hypersensitivity to the active ingredient or lincomycin. It is contraindicated in patients with a history of antibiotic-associated colitis.

Special Precautions

  • Monitor for persistent or severe diarrhea which may indicate serious bowel inflammation.
  • Use with caution in individuals with a history of gastrointestinal disease or hepatic impairment.
  • Periodic monitoring of blood counts and liver/kidney function is advised during prolonged therapy.

Is it safe to take it with other medications?

Interactions may occur with neuromuscular blocking agents, enhancing their action. It may also decrease the effectiveness of oral contraceptives and interact with erythromycin.
