It is also highly effective in managing skin and soft tissue infections of mild to moderate severity. Additionally, this medication is utilized in combination regimens for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori in patients with duodenal ulcers to reduce the risk of recurrence.

Side Effects
CLARITROL Clarithromycin 500mg common side effects include: abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and taste perversion. Some individuals may experience insomnia, headache, rashes, and hyperhidrosis. Less common but significant effects include dyspepsia, flatulence, and transient increases in liver enzymes or cholestatic jaundice in susceptible individuals.
Directions and Dosage
- Adults (18+ years): 250 mg to 500 mg twice daily. For severe infections, 500 mg twice daily. Maximum daily dosage: 1000 mg.
- Adolescents 12–18 years: 250 mg to 500 mg twice daily.
- Kids 6–12 years (above 30 kg): Dosage is usually based on weight, often 7.5 mg/kg twice daily; however, 500 mg tablets are generally not suitable for children who cannot swallow whole or require lower doses.
Not recommended for children under 12 years of age in tablet form. Maximum treatment duration: 6 to 14 days depending on the severity and type of infection.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to macrolide antibiotics; concomitant administration with astemizole, cisapride, pimozide, terfenadine, or ergot alkaloids; history of QT prolongation or ventricular cardiac arrhythmia; severe hepatic failure combined with renal impairment.
Special Precautions
- Caution should be exercised in patients with impaired renal or hepatic function.
- Prolonged use may result in overgrowth of non-susceptible bacteria or fungi.
- Monitor for signs of pseudomembranous colitis if severe diarrhea occurs.
- Risk of QT prolongation and potential for cardiac arrhythmias.
Is it safe to take it with other medications?
Interactions may occur with theophylline, carbamazepine, warfarin, and digoxin. Concurrent use with HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors like simvastatin or lovastatin is not recommended due to risk of myopathy.

Store at temperatures not exceeding 30°C. Protect from light and moisture in a dry place.
