Indications/Uses
Infections of the bone & joint, upper & lower resp tract, skin & soft tissue; surgical infections, UTI, gonorrhea.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Enteric fever, severe lower resp tract infection, pneumonia 500 mg bid. Mild to moderate lower resp tract infection, pyelonephritis & most infections 250 mg bid. UTI 125 mg bid. Uncomplicated gonorrhea 1 g as a single dose. Childn Most infections 125 mg bid. Max 250 mg. Enteric fever 250 mg bid. ≥2 yr w/ otitis media, severe infections 250 mg bid. Max: 500 mg/day.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins.
Special Precautions
History of anaphylactic reactions to penicillins, pseudomembranous colitis, prolonged use. False -ve result in ferricyanide test. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances, pseudomembranous colitis, headache, eosinophilic & transient increase in hepatic enzymes, false +ve Coombs' test.
