Indications/Uses
For the treatment of urinary tract infection and respiratory tract infection, otitis media, skin and other infections due to sensitive organisms.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult: 1-2 g daily given in divided doses at 6-8 or 12 hourly intervals.
For severe or deep-seated infections: can be increased to up to 6 g daily.
Children: 25 to 100 mg per Kg body weight daily in divided doses to maximum of 4 g/grams daily.
For prophylaxis of recurrent urinary-tract-infection: 250 mg at night.
Or as prescribed by the physician.

Administration
May be taken with or without food: May be taken w/ meals to reduce GI discomfort.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins.
Special Precautions
It should be used with caution in allergic patients, especially when there is history of penicillin allergy. Reduced dosage is recommended in patients with severe renal impairment.
Adverse Reactions
Cefalexin may cause abdominal discomfort and diarrhea in some patients, allergic reactions, such as skin rashes, urticarial, eosinophilia, angioedema and anaphylaxis may occur and rises in liver enzyme value have been noted.

Bacteriostatic antibiotics, Probenecid.
Caution For Usage
Direction For Reconstitution: 100 mg/mL Powder for Suspension (Oral Drops): To make 10 mL reconstituted suspension, mix thoroughly with 8 mL and shake well until the powder is evenly suspended. The reconstituted suspension is stable for 7 days at temperatures not exceeding 30°C and 14 days under refrigeration (2-8°C).
125 mg/5 mL Powder for Suspension: To make 60 mL reconstituted suspension, mix thoroughly the contents with 42 mL water and shake well until the powder is evenly suspended. The reconstituted suspension is stable for 7 days at temperatures not exceeding 30°C and 14 days under refrigeration (2-8°C).
250 mg/5 mL Granules for Suspension: To make 60 mL reconstituted suspension, mix thoroughly the contents with 43 mL water and shake well until the powder is evenly suspended. The reconstituted suspension is stable for 7 days at temperatures not exceeding 30°C and 14 days under refrigeration (2-8°C).

Action
Pharmacology: Pharmacokinetics: Absorption: Cefalexin is acid stable and is readily absorbed after oral administration, food may delay absorption. Intramuscular doses of the lysine salt are well absorbed up to 15% of a dose is bound to plasma proteins. The half-life had been reported to range from 0.5 to 2.0 hours and this increase with reduced renal function.
