Indications / Uses

ACRESIL-300 Clindamycin 300m is used for the treatment of serious infections caused by susceptible anaerobic bacteria, as well as susceptible strains of streptococci, pneumococci, and staphylococci. It is indicated for lower and upper respiratory tract infections, including pneumonia and tonsillitis, along with skin and soft tissue infections such as cellulitis and abscesses. This medicine is also effective against various gynecological, intra-abdominal, bone, and joint infections. It serves as an alternative for patients who are unable to tolerate penicillin for severe infections caused by susceptible organisms.

Side Effects

ACRESIL-300 Clindamycin 300m common side effects include gastrointestinal issues such as diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and an unpleasant or metallic taste in the mouth. Diarrhea can sometimes be severe and may indicate **pseudomembranous colitis**, which can occur even weeks after treatment is completed and requires immediate attention. **Severe hypersensitivity reactions** are also possible, including widespread itching, rash, blistering or peeling of the skin, and life-threatening conditions such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN).

Directions and Dosage

  • Dosage for Adults (18+ years): For serious infections, the typical dose is 150 mg to 300 mg every 6 hours. For more severe infections, 300 mg to 450 mg every 6 hours may be used.
  • Dosage for Kids (who can swallow capsules): The daily dose is determined by body weight, typically 8 to 25 mg per kilogram of body weight per day, divided into 3 or 4 equal doses.

For infections caused by beta-hemolytic streptococci, treatment should continue for at least 10 days. Total duration of treatment for most serious infections is typically 10 to 14 days.

Contraindications

This product should not be used in individuals with a known hypersensitivity to the active substance or to the closely related drug lincomycin. It is also contraindicated in patients with a history of colitis or other severe gastrointestinal diseases. The substance should not be used in the treatment of brain infections as it does not adequately enter the cerebrospinal fluid.

Special Precautions

  • Caution should be exercised in individuals with a history of gastrointestinal disease, especially colitis, as the substance may worsen these conditions.
  • The sudden onset of significant or persistent diarrhea necessitates immediate discontinuation of treatment.
  • Prolonged use may lead to the overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms, resulting in a new infection.
  • Use with caution in atopic individuals (those with asthma, eczema, or hay fever).
  • The use of the substance is not recommended for individuals with rare hereditary issues like galactose intolerance or Lapp lactase deficiency.

Is it safe to take it with other medications?

This substance may enhance the effects of other **neuromuscular blocking agents** used during surgical procedures, posing a risk of respiratory depression. It has been shown to potentially antagonize the effects of certain macrolide antibiotics, such as erythromycin. Caution is also advised when co-administered with **blood thinners** like warfarin, as there may be an increased risk of bleeding which may require closer blood monitoring.

How should I store it?

This medication should be stored at room temperature, ideally below 25°C. It must be kept safely secured and out of the sight and reach of children.
