Side Effects
RUMALOX 15 Meloxicam 15mg common side effects include: gastrointestinal issues such as stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, and indigestion, with a serious risk of ulceration or bleeding that can occur without warning. Other frequently reported effects are dizziness, headache, and edema (swelling), particularly in the lower limbs. There is also an increased risk of serious cardiovascular thrombotic events, which can increase with duration of use and higher dosage.
Directions and Dosage
- Dosage for Adults (16+ years): For rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis, the usual dosage is 15 mg once daily. For osteoarthritis, the starting dose is 7.5 mg once daily, which may be increased to 15 mg once daily if needed. Do not exceed the maximum daily dosage of 15 mg.
- Dosage for Kids 2 years and older: For Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis (JRA), the maximum daily dosage is 7.5 mg. The tablet form is generally not recommended for children weighing less than 60 kg due to dosing accuracy limitations; oral suspension may be preferred.
Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest possible duration. This product is not recommended for children under 16 years for osteoarthritis or ankylosing spondylitis indications.
Contraindications
The product must not be used by individuals with a known sensitivity to the active ingredient or other similar anti-inflammatory substances, particularly those who have experienced asthma, hives, or swelling after taking them. It is also prohibited for people with active peptic ulcers, a history of gastrointestinal bleeding related to previous use of this class of compounds, severe heart failure, bleeding disorders, or severe liver or kidney failure not undergoing dialysis.
Special Precautions
- Requires careful use in individuals with pre-existing heart disease, high blood pressure, or conditions that cause fluid retention.
- Use should be avoided in the setting of coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery.
- Use with caution in elderly individuals, as they are at greater risk for serious gastrointestinal and heart-related complications.
- The compound may cause life-threatening skin reactions, and treatment must be stopped at the first sign of rash or mucosal lesions.
Is it safe to take it with other medications?
Taking it with other anti-inflammatory drugs, including salicylates, is not recommended as it increases the risk of stomach and intestinal problems. The compound may enhance the effect of blood thinners, increasing the risk of hemorrhage. It can also reduce the blood pressure-lowering effect of certain drugs and may increase the toxicity of lithium and methotrexate.
