Indications/Uses
Short-term management of moderate to severe acute post-op pain.
Dosage/Direction for Use
10 mg 4-6 hrly. Doses >40 mg/day are not recommended. Patient receiving ketorolac amp & converted to ketorolac tab Total combined daily dose: Adult Not >90 mg. Elderly, renally impaired, patient <50 kg 60 mg. Patient w/ lesser renal impairment IV/IM Not >60 mg/day.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take immediately after meals.
Contraindications
Moderate to severe renal impairment. History of peptic ulcer or GI bleeding, asthma; cerebrovascular bleeding; hemorrhagic diatheses including coagulation disorders; hypersensitivity to other NSAIDs, aspirin, prostaglandin synthesis inhibitors. Complete or nasal polyp or partial syndrome, angioedema or bronchospasm; hypovolemia or dehydration; post-op patients w/ a high risk of hemorrhage or incomplete hemostasis. Epidural or spiral administration. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <16 yr.
Special Precautions
Discontinue use if signs & symptoms of liver dysfunction or abnormal liver test occur. Patient <50 kg. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances; abnormal dreams, taste & vision, thinking; aseptic meningitis, convulsions, depression, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, euphoria, excessive thirst, functional disorders, hallucinations, headache, hearing loss, hyperkinesia, inability to concentrate, insomnia, myalgia, nervousness, paresthesia, stimulation, sweating, tinnitus, vertigo. Acute renal failure, flank pain (w/ or w/o hematuria), glomerular nephritis, hemolytic uremic syndrome, hyperkalemia, hyponatremia, increased urinary frequency, interstitial nephritis, nephrotic syndrome, oliguria, raised serum urea & creatinine, renal papillary necrosis. Bradycardia, flushing, HTN, pallor, purpura, thrombocytopenia, asthma, dyspnea, pulmonary edema. Exfoliative dermatitis, Lyell's syndrome, maculopapular rash, pruritus, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, urticaria. Anaphylaxis, bronchospasm, flushing & rash, hypotension, laryngeal edema. Epistaxis, hematoma, post-op wound hemorrhage. Abnormal liver function tests, asthenia, edema, inj site pain, wt gain.
Drug Interactions
Probenecid, oxpentifylline, lithium, other NSAIDs, ACE inhibitors, methotrexate; furosemide.
