DOLFENAL Mefenamic 500mg is used for the symptomatic relief of mild to moderate pain. This includes various forms of pain such as headache, dental pain, and discomfort following minor surgery or childbirth. It is also used to relieve painful symptoms of primary dysmenorrhea and menorrhagia, which is a condition involving heavy menstrual bleeding. Furthermore, it provides relief for pain associated with musculoskeletal and joint disorders, including both osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.

Side Effects
DOLFENAL Mefenamic 500mg common side effects include gastrointestinal discomfort such as upset stomach, diarrhea, constipation, gas, heartburn, nausea, and vomiting. Other frequently noted effects are headaches, dizziness, skin rash, or itching. In some cases, individuals may experience ringing or buzzing in the ears, or a persistent feeling of fullness in the abdomen. This drug may increase the risk of serious cardiovascular or gastrointestinal events, including bleeding, ulceration, or perforation.
Directions and Dosage
- Dosage for Adults and Adolescents (14+ years): An initial dose of 500 mg is followed by 250 mg every 6 hours as required.
The duration of use should generally not exceed 7 days for the relief of pain. For the treatment of menstrual pain, the duration should typically not exceed 2 to 3 days. Not recommended for children under 14 years of age.
Contraindications
Use is not recommended for individuals with a known hypersensitivity to this type of pain reliever or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents. Avoid use if there is a history of active peptic ulceration, inflammatory bowel disease, or a history of gastrointestinal bleeding or perforation associated with similar treatments. Also, those with severe heart, liver, or kidney impairment should not use this product. Use is specifically restricted during the last three months of pregnancy and for treating pain right before or after heart bypass surgery.
Special Precautions
- Use with caution in elderly individuals and those with reduced kidney function or dehydration.
- This type of medication carries a risk of serious cardiovascular events, including heart attack and stroke.
- It can also cause serious gastrointestinal events such as bleeding and ulceration, which can occur without warning.
- Prolonged use for the relief of recurring headaches can sometimes lead to the pain becoming worse.
Is it safe to take it with other medications?
Concomitant use with blood thinning agents may significantly increase the risk of bleeding. This product may also decrease the effectiveness of certain medications used for high blood pressure or water retention.
How should I store it?
The product should be kept at room temperature, ideally between 15°C and 30°C. Keep it away from sources of moisture and excessive heat.
