Indications / Uses

CO-ALTRIA PED Montelukast / Levocetirizine 5mg / 2.5mg is used for the relief of symptoms associated with allergic rhinitis, such as sneezing, runny nose, and itchy or watery eyes, in pediatric patients. It is also indicated for the prevention and long-term treatment of asthma and the management of exercise-induced bronchoconstriction. By combining a leukotriene receptor antagonist with an antihistamine, it provides comprehensive control over seasonal and perennial allergic reactions.

CO-ALTRIA PED Montelukast / Levocetirizine 5mg / 2.5mg contains: Montelukast Sodium 5mg + Levocetirizine Hydrochloride 2.5mg

Side Effects

CO-ALTRIA PED Montelukast / Levocetirizine 5mg / 2.5mg common side effects include: drowsiness, fatigue, dry mouth, and headache. Some children may experience upper respiratory tract infections, fever, or abdominal pain. Behavioral changes, such as irritability or restlessness, have also been reported in some cases.

Directions and Dosage

• Kids 6–14 years: 1 chewable tablet daily, preferably taken in the evening.
• Adults and Adolescents (15+ years): 1 tablet once daily, though higher strength formulations are typically used for this age group.

Maximum daily dosage: 1 tablet in 24 hours. Not recommended for children under 6 years of age in this chewable tablet form. Duration of treatment depends on the clinical response and the nature of the allergic condition or asthma management.

Contraindications

Severe renal impairment with creatinine clearance less than 10 mL/min. Hypersensitivity to any components of the formulation or to piperazine derivatives.

Special Precautions

• Avoid activities requiring mental alertness as this may cause somnolence.
• Monitor for neuropsychiatric events including agitation, aggression, or sleep disturbances.
• Should not be used for the immediate relief of an acute asthma attack.
• Exercise caution in patients with predisposing factors for urinary retention.

Is it safe to take it with other medications?

Ritonavir or theophylline may slightly increase the systemic exposure of the antihistamine component. Phenobarbital or rifampicin may decrease the plasma concentration of the leukotriene antagonist component.

How should I store it?

Store at temperatures not exceeding 30°C. Keep the tablets in the original package to protect from light and moisture.
