VICKS VAPORUB Ointment is used for the symptomatic relief of nasal congestion, cough, and muscular aches and pains associated with the common cold. Its medicated vapors help to soothe and clear the nasal passages, providing a cooling sensation that makes breathing feel easier. Additionally, when applied topically, it acts as a mild analgesic to ease minor muscle aches and soreness caused by cold symptoms or physical overexertion.

Side Effects
VICKS VAPORUB Ointment common side effects include: local skin irritation, redness, or a burning sensation at the site of application. In rare cases, hypersensitivity reactions such as contact dermatitis may occur. If vapors are too strong for sensitive individuals, temporary eye irritation or watering may be experienced if applied too close to the face.
Directions and Dosage
- Dosage for Adults (18+ years): Apply a thick layer to the chest, neck, and back up to 3 times daily. Can also be used for steam inhalation by adding 2 teaspoons to hot (not boiling) water.
- Dosage for Kids 6–12 years: Apply a thin layer to the chest and back up to 3 times in 24 hours.
- Dosage for Kids 2–6 years: Apply a very small amount to the chest and back. Do not exceed 3 applications in 24 hours.
Not recommended for children under 2 years of age. Maximum treatment duration: 7 days. For external use only; do not ingest or place inside nostrils.
Contraindications
Do not use on broken, damaged, or irritated skin. Contraindicated for children under 2 years old and individuals with known hypersensitivity to any of the aromatic ingredients. Avoid use if there is a history of airway hypersensitivity or asthma.
Special Precautions
- Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, and mucous membranes.
- Do not heat the ointment or use it in a microwave, as this can cause serious burns.
- Never apply bandages tightly over the area where the ointment has been spread.
Is it safe to take it with other medications?
Interactions with systemic medications are unlikely due to the topical nature of the product. However, avoid applying other topical creams or ointments on the same skin area simultaneously to prevent irritation or altered absorption.
How should I store it?
Store at temperatures not exceeding 30°C. Keep the container tightly closed when not in use and store out of reach of children.
