GOTAMED Betamethasone 1% Cream is used for the relief of inflammatory and itchy skin conditions that are responsive to topical corticosteroids. This potent preparation is commonly applied for treating dermatoses such as various forms of eczema, including atopic and nummular dermatitis, seborrheic dermatitis, and certain types of psoriasis, excluding widespread plaque psoriasis. It is also effective for managing prurigo nodularis, lichen planus, and skin irritation caused by insect bites or allergic contact.

Side Effects

GOTAMED Betamethasone 1% Cream common side effects include: temporary sensations of burning, stinging, itching, or pain at the application site, which typically lessen with continued use. Other local reactions may involve irritation, dryness, and a change in skin appearance, such as thinning, discoloration, or the presence of stretch marks. Less common effects are increased hair growth (hypertrichosis), acne-like breakouts, and inflammation of the hair follicles (folliculitis).

Directions and Dosage

  • Dosage for Adults and Elderly: Apply a thin film to the affected area 1 to 2 times daily.
  • Dosage for Kids (1 year and older): Apply a thin film to the affected area 1 to 2 times daily. Treatment courses for kids should be limited to 5 days.

Not suitable for infants under 1 year old. For adults, the maximum duration of continuous treatment is generally 4 weeks, and total use should be limited to 45 grams per week.

Contraindications

This topical treatment should not be used by individuals with known sensitivity to similar compounds. It is also unsuitable for treating viral skin infections like herpes simplex or varicella, as well as untreated bacterial or fungal infections of the skin. Use is contraindicated in conditions such as acne vulgaris, rosacea, and dermatitis around the mouth.

Special Precautions

  • Avoid prolonged continuous application, especially over large surface areas, which may lead to systemic effects.
  • Exercise care when applying this preparation to the face, armpits, or groin, and do not use on broken or compromised skin.
  • Treatment of a skin condition known as psoriasis requires careful monitoring due to the risk of the condition worsening or developing tolerance.
  • Younger individuals may be more susceptible to the effects of topical application and should receive the minimum effective treatment time.

Is it safe to take it with other medications?

Interactions with other orally or systemically administered treatments are generally unlikely because the topical absorption of this preparation is minimal. However, using this product alongside other medications that affect hormone levels or the liver may increase the potential for systemic exposure to the active compound.

How should I store it?
