Indications / Uses
ACCEDIAZINE Silver Sulfadiazine Cream is used for the prevention and treatment of wound sepsis in patients with second- and third-degree burns. This cream is a broad-spectrum topical antibacterial agent that works effectively against various gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, and even some yeasts. It is also indicated as an adjunct therapy for preventing infection in other skin lesions, like leg ulcers, pressure sores, and areas where skin grafting has been performed. The application of the cream helps to prevent bacteria from growing and spreading within the wound, significantly reducing the risk of a serious blood infection.

Side Effects
ACCEDIAZINE Silver Sulfadiazine Cream common side effects include: temporary skin discomfort such as a burning feeling, itching, or pain in the treated areas. Other potential local reactions are skin rash and a transient brownish-gray discoloration of the skin. Although minimal, absorption can lead to more serious systemic effects, especially when applied to large areas. These rare, more concerning reactions include a decrease in white blood cell count (leukopenia), severe skin conditions like Stevens-Johnson syndrome, and signs of blood disorders such as unusual bleeding or fatigue.
Directions and Dosage
- Dosage for Adults: Apply a layer about 1/16 inch thick to the affected area one or two times daily.
- Dosage for Kids over 2 months: Application frequency is determined individually.
The affected area must be kept covered with the application at all times. Reapply immediately if the application is rubbed off or removed during cleaning. Continuous application should not exceed the necessary duration for the burn or wound to heal.
Contraindications
Contraindications include a known sensitivity to any of the components in the preparation or to similar classes of antibacterials. Use is not appropriate for newborn infants during the first two months of life due to the potential for serious adverse effects. The topical application is also not recommended for women at or near the end of their term.
Use in Pregnancy and Lactation
Use near the end of the term is contraindicated due to a specific risk to the infant. For application during other periods, the necessity of its use must be carefully weighed, especially if the treated area is extensive. The application is also not recommended for women who are providing sustenance to their infants.
Special Precautions
- Caution is required for individuals with certain hereditary blood enzyme disorders (G6PD deficiency) due to the risk of blood cell damage.
- Use with care in the presence of existing kidney or liver impairment, as this may lead to accumulation and increased systemic effects.
- Systemic absorption can occur, particularly when applied to large, damaged skin surfaces or over an extended period.
- Periodic monitoring of blood counts is advisable during extended use.
- Avoid direct exposure to sunlight, as this may cause a temporary grey coloring of the treated skin.
- For external use only; prevent contact with the eyes and mucous membranes.
Is it safe to take it with other medications?
Caution is advised when applying this with products containing certain protein-digesting enzymes, such as those used for debridement. The metallic component in the preparation can potentially decrease the effectiveness of those enzymes, so their combined use requires monitoring.
How should I store it?
Keep the container closed securely and store it at room temperature. The preparation should be kept away from excessive heat and moisture to maintain its quality.
