Acnetrex 10mg is used for severe recalcitrant nodular acne resistant to conventional therapies. It reduces sebum production, inflammation, and Cutibacterium acnes colonization. This medication is also prescribed for acne vulgaris with high risk of scarring or psychological distress.

Side Effects
Acnetrex 10mg common side effects include: severe dry skin, lips, and eyes; nosebleeds; joint/muscle pain; temporary hair thinning; and photosensitivity. Rare but serious risks include intracranial hypertension, liver enzyme elevation, and teratogenicity. Mood changes or vision disturbances require immediate discontinuation.
Directions and Dosage
- Adults & Adolescents (12+ years): 0.5–1 mg/kg daily in 2 divided doses. Maximum daily dose: 2 mg/kg.
- Children under 12: Not recommended.
Take with fatty meals for better absorption. Typical treatment duration: 15–20 weeks. Do not exceed cumulative dose of 120–150 mg/kg per course.
Contraindications
Pregnancy, hypersensitivity to retinoids, concomitant tetracycline use, or severe hepatic impairment.
Use in Pregnancy and Lactation
Absolute contraindication during pregnancy. Avoid breastfeeding due to secretion in milk.
Special Precautions
- Monthly monitoring of liver function and lipid profiles required
- Use two contraceptive methods 1 month before, during, and 1 month after therapy
- Avoid UV exposure and laser treatments
Is it safe to take it with other medications?
Contraindicated with tetracyclines due to intracranial hypertension risk. Avoid vitamin A supplements and St. John’s wort.
