Description

Indications/Uses

It is indicated for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis; Calcium and Vitamin D deficiency states.

Dosage/Direction for Use

One tablet twice a day with food and a full glass of water or as prescribed by the physician.
Calcium supplements are best taken with meal to ensure optimal absorption. Drink a full glass of water (8 ounces) with each dose, unless the patient is on kidney dialysis.
Do not use more medicine or use it more often than the doctor says. If needed to take more than one dose each day, take each dose at evenly spaced times, unless a doctor has told the patient otherwise.
Missed Dose: If the patient missed a dose, take the missed dose as soon as they remembered. If it is almost time for the next dose, wait until then to use the medicine and skipped dose. Do not take a double dose to compensate for a forgotten tablet.

Overdosage

Symptoms of overdose may include: constipation, nausea, vomiting, alkalosis, anorexia, milk-alkali syndrome, hypercalcemia, nephrolithiasis, and low level of phosphorus in the blood (hypophosphatemia).
In case of accidental overdose, discontinue use and seek professional assistance immediately.

Drug Interactions

Make sure the doctor knows if the patient is also using other supplements or medicines that contain Calcium. Calcium can change the way other medicines work if taken at the same time. If the patient needs to use other medicines, take them at least 2 hours before or 2 hours after taking the calcium supplement. This is particularly important if the patient is also using phenytoin or a tetracycline antibiotic to treat an infection (such as doxycycline, minocycline), fluoroquinolone antibiotics and levothyroxine (thyroid medication).
Do not take the calcium supplement with a high-fiber meal (such as bran, whole-grain cereal or bread, fresh fruits).
Do not smoke cigarettes or cigars and do not drink large amounts of alcohol or caffeine (for example, more than about 8 cups of coffee).
