Description
Indications/Uses
Multivitamins + Minerals (Sangobion IRON+) provides complete and reliable treatment for a wide range of anemias: iron deficiency anemia; anemia during pregnancy, growth, convalescence and senility; megaloblastic and macrocytic hyperchromic anemias; alimentary anemia; prophylaxis against anemia in blood donors.
The same combination of components in this formulation also help support the process of red blood cell production in the body.

Dosage/Direction for Use
Take one to two capsules daily during or after meals, unless otherwise prescribed by the physician.
Missed dose: If the patient forgot to take Multivitamins + Minerals (Sangobion IRON+), the patient should not make up for it by doubling the next dose. Simply take the next dose at the usual time.

Overdosage
Signs & Symptoms: Iron overdose is an acute emergency requiring urgent medical attention. Initial symptoms include vomiting, vomiting blood, diarrhea, abdominal pain, irritability and drowsiness. Later very low blood pressure (shock), fever, bleeding, liver impairment and seizure can develop.
If overdose is suspected, treatment should be implemented immediately by professionals in a medical facility.
Treatment: Observe for adverse reactions as a result of overdose. Consult a physician immediately when these manifest.

Administration
Should be taken with food: Take during or after meals to minimize the effects of GI irritation.
Contraindications
Do not take this medicine if the patient has any known allergies or hypersensitivity to any component of this product. The patient should not take this medicine if he/she is receiving repeated blood transfusions or suffer from anemias not caused by iron deficiency. If in doubt please consult a physician.
Adverse Reactions
As with any iron supplement, symptoms may include those due to gastrointestinal irritation like abdominal pain/cramps, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or constipation.
Occasional rusty aftertaste may be experienced by some individuals.
Allergic symptoms which include pruritus or itchiness, urticaria or hives, difficulty of breathing, chest pain.
Expect blackening of the stools while taking Multivitamins + Minerals (Sangobion IRON+). This is due to the iron content of the product.

Drug Interactions
Iron is known to decrease the antibiotic action of Tetracyclines and Quinolones. In addition, iron may decrease the absorption of the following medications: Levodopa (a drug used to treat Parkinson's disease); Levothyroxine which is used to treat hypothyroidism; Bisphosphonates (used for treatment of osteoporosis and other bone diseases); Methyldopa (an antihypertensive); Penicillamine (used for the treatment of Wilson's disease and rheumatoid arthritis). Taking iron preparations such as that of Multivitamins + Minerals (Sangobion IRON+) and the previously mentioned medicines should be spaced by at least 2 hours.
Absorption of iron may be reduced in the presence of the following: Antacids and proton pump inhibitors which reduce stomach acidity.
Some food (e.g. tea, coffee, wholegrain cereals, eggs and milk).
Oral neomycin (broad-spectrum antibiotic).
Calcium, zinc and oral magnesium salts.
Bicarbonates, carbonates, oxalates, or phosphates, insoluble complexes.
