Indications / Uses

EUROLEV Levothyroxine 50mcg is used for replacement therapy in the treatment of low thyroid function (hypothyroidism). It is also employed to suppress thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) production in patients with thyroid carcinoma. Additionally, it serves as a diagnostic agent for differentiating certain types of hyperthyroidism.

Side Effects

EUROLEV Levothyroxine 50mcg common side effects include increased heart rate (tachycardia) and palpitations, which can sometimes escalate to cardiac arrhythmias or anginal pain. Other common occurrences are symptoms of nervousness such as tremors, excitability, restlessness, and difficulty sleeping (insomnia). Gastrointestinal disturbances like diarrhea and vomiting may also occur, alongside physical signs such as flushing, excessive sweating, muscular weakness, and unwanted excessive weight loss.

Directions and Dosage

• Dosage for Adults (18+ years): Initial daily dose is 50-100 mcg. Doses are increased by 25-50 mcg every 4 weeks until deficiency is corrected. Maintenance dosage is generally 100-200 mcg daily.
• Dosage for Adolescents (12 years and up): The starting dose is approximately 2-3 mcg/kg daily.
• Dosage for Kids 6–12 years: The dosage is typically 4–5 mcg/kg daily, or 100–125 mcg once per day.
• Dosage for Kids 1–5 years: The dosage is typically 5–6 mcg/kg daily, or 75–100 mcg once per day.
• Dosage for Infants 3–6 months: 8–10 mcg/kg daily, or 25–50 mcg once per day.
• Dosage for Neonates 0–3 months: 10–15 mcg/kg per day.

Dosage adjustments are based on individual needs and response to treatment.

Contraindications

This drug should not be used by individuals suffering from an acute overactive thyroid condition (thyrotoxicosis).

Special Precautions

• Caution is advised for those with existing cardiovascular disorders, including chest pain (angina), high blood pressure, and a history of heart attack or heart failure.
• The drug should be used with care in cases of impaired adrenal gland function.

Is it safe to take it with other medications?

This medication can interact with several types of drugs. Adjustments may be necessary if taking blood thinners (anticoagulants), certain anti-seizure medications, specific heart rhythm medications (cardiac glycosides), antidepressants, or oral contraceptives.

How should I store it?

Store the medication below 30°C in a dry place. Protect the tablets from exposure to light and excessive moisture to maintain stability.
