Indications / Uses

KHRIZVELA Sevelamer 800mg is used for the control of high phosphate levels, a condition known as hyperphosphatemia, in individuals suffering from chronic kidney disease (CKD). This condition often requires dialysis treatment (hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis). The treatment helps manage the mineral balance in the body. It is also used in adult patients with CKD who are not yet on dialysis but have significantly elevated phosphate levels in their blood.

Formulation / Ingredients

KHRIZVELA Sevelamer 800mg contains: Sevelamer Carbonate 800mg

Do I need prescription to buy KHRIZVELA Sevelamer 800mg?

Yes, you need a prescription. But if you don't have one, you can get a free teleconsultation from MedsGo Physician. Just make an order and our Physician will call you back.

Side Effects

KHRIZVELA Sevelamer 800mg common side effects include: gastrointestinal issues such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and constipation. Other common effects are dyspepsia (indigestion), flatulence, loss of appetite, itching, and joint pain. While rare, more severe effects can occur, including intestinal obstruction, ulceration, or gastrointestinal bleeding. Monitoring for severe constipation and unusual stomach discomfort is important.

Directions and Dosage

  • Dosage for Adults (18+ years): Initial daily dose ranges from 2400 mg (800 mg three times daily) to 4800 mg (1600 mg three times daily). The dose is then adjusted every 2 weeks based on blood phosphate levels.
  • Dosage for Kids 6+ years: Dosing is based on body surface area (BSA). Initial daily dose ranges from 2400 mg (800 mg three times daily) to 4800 mg (1600 mg three times daily).

Maximum daily dosage studied is 14 g. Not recommended for children younger than 6 years of age or those with a BSA below 0.75 m².

Contraindications

Should not be used in individuals experiencing a complete blockage in the bowel. It is also contraindicated for those with very low phosphate levels or individuals with known hypersensitivity to the components of the tablet. Use should be avoided in patients with known active mucosal injuries, such as internal bleeding or perforation, in the gastrointestinal tract.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

The medicine may reduce the body's absorption of fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K) and folic acid during pregnancy, and supplementation may be necessary. Since the agent is not absorbed into the body, exposure to an infant through nursing is unlikely.

Special Precautions

  • Treatment re-evaluation is necessary if severe constipation or other major gastrointestinal symptoms occur.
  • Caution is advised for patients with existing swallowing difficulties or disorders affecting intestinal movement.
  • Patients with renal insufficiency may require supplemental calcium, as this formulation does not contain it.
  • Regular assessment of serum levels for fat-soluble vitamins, folic acid, calcium, and bicarbonate is recommended.

Is it safe to take it with other medications?

This agent can reduce the absorption and effectiveness of other medicines taken simultaneously, especially ciprofloxacin and mycophenolate mofetil. To minimize this effect, a time separation of administration for certain concomitant drugs is necessary.

How should I store it?

The tablets should be stored in a dry place to protect them from moisture. The ideal temperature for storage should not exceed 25°C.
