Indications / Uses

OMEBLOC-20 Omeprazole 20mg is used for the treatment of various acid-related gastrointestinal conditions. This includes healing gastric and duodenal ulcers, and managing symptoms associated with Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) and erosive esophagitis. It is also utilized in combination regimens for eradicating *Helicobacter pylori* infection in peptic ulcer disease. Furthermore, it treats pathological hypersecretory conditions such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, where the stomach produces excessive acid.

Side Effects

OMEBLOC-20 Omeprazole 20mg common side effects include: headache, abdominal discomfort, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and flatulence. Less common effects include skin rash, fatigue, or dizziness. Long-term use may increase the risk for more serious conditions such as bone fractures of the hip, wrist, or spine, and may be associated with low magnesium levels or Vitamin B-12 deficiency. There is also a small risk of developing Clostridium difficile associated diarrhea.

Directions and Dosage

• Dosage for Adults: For duodenal ulcers and GERD, 20 mg once daily.
• Dosage for Severe Gastric Ulcers: 40 mg once daily.
• Dosage for Hypersecretory Conditions (Adults): Initial 60 mg once daily. Daily doses exceeding 80 mg are typically split.
• Dosage for Kids 1 year and older (weight > 20 kg): 20 mg once daily.

Maximum treatment duration for short-term conditions is typically 8 weeks. For long-term maintenance or hypersecretory conditions, duration may extend beyond this period.

Contraindications

This preparation should not be used if there is a known sensitivity or allergy to components of the medication or to substituted benzimidazoles. Co-administration with certain HIV medications is not recommended.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

Use during pregnancy requires careful consideration. Available data suggests that using a 20 mg daily dose while breastfeeding is unlikely to cause adverse effects in infants.
