Indications / Uses

PND-CARE Polymyxin B Sulfate / Neomycin Sulfate / Dexamethasone Ear Drops is used for the treatment of susceptible superficial bacterial infections affecting the external auditory canal, a condition commonly known as otitis externa. This combination formulation contains two antibiotics to fight the underlying bacterial infection and a powerful corticosteroid to reduce the associated inflammation, swelling, and redness. The medicine helps alleviate the discomfort caused by the localized ear infection by targeting both the pathogens and the inflammatory response.

Side Effects

PND-CARE Polymyxin B Sulfate / Neomycin Sulfate / Dexamethasone Ear Drops common side effects include localized reactions such as temporary stinging, burning, or irritation within the ear canal. Prolonged use may lead to the potential for fungal overgrowth or a secondary infection by non-susceptible organisms. Rarely, an allergic sensitization, especially to the antibiotic component, may manifest as redness, itching, or swelling. Excessive absorption is unlikely but can lead to systemic effects.

Directions and Dosage

• Dosage for Adults (18+ years): 4 drops applied to the affected ear, 3 to 4 times a day.
• Dosage for Kids (2 years and up): 4 drops applied to the affected ear, 3 to 4 times a day.

Not intended for use in children under 2 years of age. Maximum daily dosage is 4 applications. Maximum treatment duration is generally 7 to 10 days.

Contraindications

This solution should not be used if there is a known sensitivity or allergy to any of the components in the formulation. Avoid use in cases of viral infections in the ear, such as those caused by varicella or herpes simplex. Additionally, this medication is contraindicated if a fungal infection or tuberculosis of the ear is present.

Special Precautions

• Avoid use for extended periods, as this increases the risk of secondary infections and the potential for bacterial resistance.
• Discontinue application immediately if a skin rash or localized irritation develops during the course of treatment.
• Do not use if the tympanic membrane (eardrum) is known to be perforated due to the potential for inner ear effects.
• This solution is intended only for topical use in the ear canal and must not be ingested or used in the eyes.

Is it safe to take it with other medications?

Given the local nature of the application as ear drops, the potential for systemic absorption into the bloodstream is minimal. Consequently, significant interactions with orally taken or injected medications are not generally expected or widely documented.

How should I store it?

The container must be stored upright at room temperature, typically between 15°C and 25°C. Ensure the bottle is protected from light to maintain the effectiveness of the solution.
