Indications/Uses
Polymxyin B-neomycin-dexamethasone ophthalmic is prescribed to treat bacterial eye infections.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Use polymyxin B-neomycin-dexamethasone ophthalmic exactly as instructed by your doctor for it to be effective.
- Polymyxin B-neomycin-dexamethasone ophthalmic is for use in the eyes only.
- Wash and dry your hands before and after applying this medicine.
- Apply polymyxin B-neomycin-dexamethasone into your lower eyelid. To do this, pull the lower eyelid away from the eye, look up and drop the prescribed dose into the inside of the pulled eyelid, taking care not to touch the eye with the tip of the bottle.
- If you use the drops form, close your eye after application and apply light pressure with your finger to the inside corner of your eye near your nose for about 1 minute to prevent the medicine from draining out.
- If you use the ointment form, close your eye after application and roll your eyeball around for 1-2 minutes to allow the medicine to spread around the inside of your eye.
- Do not use more amounts or more often or use for a longer period than prescribed by your doctor. Prolonged use can lead to a new infection or cause an increase in the pressure in the eyes.
- Do not touch or wash the dropper or let it touch your eyes or any other surface.
- Remove contact lenses before using this medicine and do not reinsert unless instructed by your doctor.
- Do not use any other eye medications during treatment with this medicine unless advised by your doctor.
- It is important that the full course of application is completed within the duration specified by your doctor, even if symptoms disappear.
- If you forget to use this medicine on schedule, use it immediately as you remember. However, if it is already time for the next dose, just proceed with your next regular dose schedule.
Contraindications and Special Precautions
- It is important that your doctor or pharmacist is informed:
- if you are pregnant, trying for a baby or breast-feeding;
- if you have any of the following conditions: allergy, viral or fungal eye infection, eye diseases causing thinning of the cornea, glaucoma;
- if you are using any other prescription or over-the-counter (OTC) medicines and dietary or herbal supplements.
- It is important to keep a regular check-up schedule. Your doctor may prescribe tests to check and monitor your progress while under treatment with this medicine.
- If you need to undergo surgery or dental procedure, you must first inform your doctor or dentist that you are using this medicine before going through it.
- Side effects may possibly occur as with most medicines. You may not experience any side effect; however, if you experience any of these side effects with polymxyin Bneomycin-dexamethasone ophthalmic, you have to inform your doctor immediately, especially if they become severe or persistent: eye stinging, burning, redness, swelling, pain or discharge, vision problems, increased eye pressure and allergic reactions such as hives, difficulty breathing and swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat.
- If you experience vision problems, you should not drive, operate machinery or perform any activity which will need you to see clearly.
- The side effects mentioned here are not complete and others may occur. If you observe other side effects or reactions, you have to call your doctor for advice.
- You must not share your medicine with others even if you have the same disease symptoms.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep the medicine out of childrens reach. Discard it properly when it is expired or no longer needed.
