Indications / Uses

ROZATIN-10 Rosuvastatin 10mg is used for the management of high cholesterol levels, including primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia, when diet alone is not enough. It is also indicated to reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events, such as heart attack and stroke, in adults with an increased risk of heart disease. The medication works as a lipid-lowering agent by decreasing 'bad' cholesterol (LDL-C) and triglycerides, while helping to increase 'good' cholesterol (HDL-C) in the blood.

Side Effects

ROZATIN-10 Rosuvastatin 10mg common side effects include headache, muscle pain (myalgia), abdominal discomfort, and general weakness. More serious, but less common, effects can involve severe muscle issues like myopathy, which may rarely lead to muscle breakdown (rhabdomyolysis). It may also cause joint pain, nausea, and, in rare instances, signs of liver problems such as dark urine or yellowing of the skin. If serious muscle or liver symptoms occur, the medication should be stopped immediately.

Directions and Dosage

Dosage should be taken once daily, with or without food.

• Dosage for Adults (18+ years): The starting dosage is typically 5 mg or 10 mg. The maximum daily dosage is 40 mg, which is reserved for high-risk patients who do not achieve their desired results with lower doses.
• Dosage for Adolescents and Children (10-17 years old) with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia: The starting dosage is 5 mg daily. The maximum daily dosage is 20 mg.
• Dosage for Children (7-17 years old) with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia: The recommended daily dosage is 5 mg to 20 mg.

A lower starting dosage of 5 mg may be initiated for individuals of Asian descent. For those with moderate kidney impairment, the starting dose is 5 mg with a maximum daily dosage of 10 mg.

Contraindications

Contraindications include a known hypersensitivity to any component of the tablet. It should not be used if active liver disease is present, which includes unexplained and persistent increases in liver enzymes. Use is not recommended during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.

Special Precautions

• Close monitoring is required if there is a history of kidney problems or impaired kidney function.
• A lower starting dosage may be required for individuals of Asian descent or those with moderate to severe kidney impairment.
• Use with caution in patients who consume large amounts of alcohol, as this may increase the risk of liver side effects.
• Discontinuation may be necessary if there are signs of severe muscle symptoms or significant, unexplained weakness.
• It should be used with caution in people with uncontrolled thyroid issues (hypothyroidism).

Is it safe to take it with other medications?

Taking this medication with other lipid-lowering agents, such as fibrates, may increase the risk of muscle-related side effects. Antacids containing aluminum and magnesium should be taken at least 2 hours after this product, as they can reduce its effectiveness. Close monitoring is needed if taken with blood thinners like warfarin, as it can affect blood clotting time.
