Indications / Uses

FENORIX Fenofibrate 200mg is used for the management of hyperlipidemias, which includes elevated levels of triglycerides and cholesterol in the blood. This product works as an adjunct to dietary changes to reduce low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) cholesterol and apolipoprotein B, while also helping to increase high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol. It is suitable for various types of hyperlipoproteinemias, such as Type IIa, Type IIb, Type III, Type IV, and Type V, aiming to lower the risk associated with high fat levels.

Side Effects

FENORIX Fenofibrate 200mg common side effects include: abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, flatulence, and diarrhea. Some people may also experience mild muscle pain, which can rarely be a sign of a more serious muscle problem. Less frequent effects may include headaches, raised liver enzymes, or skin reactions to sunlight. If muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness occurs, or if signs of liver problems appear (such as yellowing of the skin), seeking attention is important.

Directions and Dosage

• Dosage for Adults: The usual dosage is 200 mg once daily. In some cases, depending on the formulation, the dose may be increased to 267 mg once daily.

The maximum daily dosage should not exceed 267 mg once daily. This product is generally not recommended for use in children. Treatment duration is typically long-term for management of chronic lipid disorders.

Contraindications

This product should not be used by individuals with hypersensitivity to the primary component or its derivatives. It is also contraindicated in those with severe kidney impairment, active liver disease, including biliary cirrhosis, or pre-existing gallbladder disease. Individuals with an unknown allergic reaction to light when taking other fibrates should also avoid this product.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

The product should be avoided during pregnancy as data on its effect on the fetus are insufficient, and the potential risks are not fully established. It is unknown whether the active substance is excreted in human milk, thus caution should be exercised and its use is generally advised against while nursing.

Special Precautions  

• Use with caution in people with mild to moderate kidney impairment; a lower dose may be needed.
• Monitoring of liver enzyme levels is recommended periodically during treatment.
• If signs of muscle toxicity occur, use of the product should be stopped immediately.
• Avoid or limit consumption of alcohol, as it can increase the risk of muscle problems.

Is it safe to take it with other medications?

Caution is advised when taken with other lipid-lowering products, particularly those that also carry a risk of muscle toxicity, as this combination increases the chance of severe muscle problems. It may also enhance the effect of blood-thinning agents, which requires monitoring and potential dose adjustment of the blood thinner.

How should I store it?

Keep the product in a dry area at a controlled room temperature, ideally between 15°C and 30°C. Protect the capsules from direct light and moisture.
