SAPHZAR Valsartan 160mg is used for the treatment of high blood pressure (hypertension) to effectively lower blood pressure and mitigate the risk of serious cardiovascular events, including heart attack and stroke. It is also indicated for the management of certain classes of chronic heart failure. Furthermore, it is used in clinically stable patients who have experienced a heart attack to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death or left ventricular dysfunction.

Side Effects
SAPHZAR Valsartan 160mg common side effects include headache, dizziness, tiredness, and potential low blood pressure, which may cause lightheadedness, especially when rising quickly. Other frequently reported effects are stomach pain and symptoms resembling the flu. Serious, though less common, effects include high blood potassium levels and swelling of the face, lips, or throat (angioedema), which requires immediate attention.
Directions and Dosage
- Dosage for Adults (Hypertension): The usual starting dose is 80 mg or 160 mg once daily. The maximum daily dose is 320 mg once daily.
- Dosage for Adults (Heart Failure): The starting dose is 40 mg twice daily. The target maximum dose is 160 mg twice daily.
- Dosage for Adults (Post-Heart Attack): The initial dose is 20 mg twice daily. The target maximum dose is 160 mg twice daily.
- Dosage for Kids 6–18 years (Hypertension): The starting dose is typically 1.3 mg/kg once daily, not exceeding 40 mg total. The maximum daily dose is 2.7 mg/kg or 160 mg, whichever is less.
Not recommended for children under 1 year old. The duration of therapy is long-term for chronic conditions and should be routinely reviewed.
Contraindications
Do not use this product if there is a known hypersensitivity to its active content. It is absolutely contraindicated during pregnancy. It must be avoided in individuals with severe liver problems, specifically biliary cirrhosis or bile flow obstruction. Concomitant use with specific blood pressure lowering agents is also restricted in people with diabetes or reduced kidney function.
Use in Pregnancy and Lactation
Use of this medication must be discontinued as soon as pregnancy is detected, as agents acting on the same system can cause injury and death to the developing baby. Because the substance may pass into milk, it is not advisable for use by women who are breastfeeding.
Special Precautions
- Symptomatic low blood pressure may occur, particularly in individuals with pre-existing fluid or salt depletion.
- There is a potential for swelling of the face, lips, or throat, which requires immediate attention.
- Use with caution in those with reduced liver function or severe kidney impairment.
- Blood tests may be required to monitor kidney function and potassium levels during therapy.
Is it safe to take it with other medications?
Combining this product with potassium-sparing diuretics, potassium supplements, or potassium-containing salt substitutes can cause dangerously high potassium levels in the blood. Co-administration with certain anti-inflammatory pain relievers may increase the risk of developing kidney problems.
How should I store it?
Store this product at temperatures not exceeding 30°C. Keep it in a safe place, protected from excessive moisture and heat, to ensure its effectiveness.
