Indications / Uses

RITEMED Amlodipine 5mg is used for the management of high blood pressure, a condition known as hypertension, to lower the risk of cardiovascular events. It is also prescribed for the prophylaxis of angina pectoris, which is chest pain caused by coronary artery disease. This medication belongs to a group of medicines that work by relaxing and widening the blood vessels, allowing blood to flow more easily and reducing the workload on the heart. It is effective in treating both chronic stable angina and vasospastic angina.

Side Effects

RITEMED Amlodipine 5mg common side effects include: swelling of the ankles or feet (peripheral edema), which is often dose-related and may not respond to diuretics. Other frequent effects include headache, dizziness, and a feeling of being unusually tired or drowsy. Some individuals may also experience flushing (a sudden warmth or redness), palpitations (a very fast or pounding heart rate), and nausea or abdominal pain. In rare instances, chest pain may worsen upon starting treatment or increasing the dosage, or there may be a risk of excessively low blood pressure.

Directions and Dosage

• Dosage for Adults (18+ years): Initial dose is 5 mg taken once daily for both high blood pressure and angina. The daily dosage may be increased up to a maximum of 10 mg, if necessary.
• Dosage for Kids (6–17 years) for high blood pressure: Initial dose is 2.5 mg taken once daily. The daily dosage may be increased to a maximum of 5 mg.
• Dosage for Elderly and people with liver issues: An initial dose of 2.5 mg once daily is typically recommended.

Not recommended for children under 6 years. Maximum treatment duration: This treatment is typically for long-term management of chronic conditions.

Contraindications

This medication is not suitable for individuals with a known allergy to the main component or similar types of compounds. It should also be avoided in cases of severely low blood pressure, shock originating from the heart, or significant obstruction of blood flow from the heart, such as severe narrowing of the aortic valve. Caution is advised for those who have recently experienced a heart attack with an unstable heart condition.

Special Precautions

• Use with caution in people with reduced cardiac reserve or heart failure.
• Dosage adjustment may be necessary for those with impaired liver function.
• Use with extreme caution in people with severe narrowing of the aortic valve.
• Regular monitoring of blood pressure is essential during treatment.

Is it safe to take it with other medications?

Concomitant use with other blood pressure-lowering treatments can have additive effects, which should be monitored closely. Taking this medicine with certain antifungal or antibiotic agents may increase its concentration in the body, potentially leading to increased effects. Use with cholesterol-lowering medicines like simvastatin may require a dosage decrease for the other medication.

How should I store it?

Keep the tablets in their original packaging to protect them from light and moisture. Store at temperatures that do not exceed 30°C.
