It works by acting on the kidneys to increase the excretion of water and salt, thereby reducing fluid accumulation. This medication is also utilized in the management of high blood pressure, often used in combination with other anti-hypertensive agents.

Side Effects

DMLI Furosemide 20mg common side effects include: frequent and increased volume of urination, which can lead to dehydration and imbalances in electrolytes such as potassium and sodium. Other effects include dizziness, low blood pressure upon standing, and headache. Less common but serious effects may involve temporary or permanent hearing impairment, especially with high doses or in patients with kidney problems, and serious allergic skin reactions.

Directions and Dosage

  • Dosage for Adults (18+ years) with Edema: The usual starting dose ranges from 20 mg to 80 mg administered once daily. The dosage can be adjusted by 20 mg to 40 mg increments every 6 to 8 hours. The total daily intake should generally not exceed 600 mg.
  • Dosage for Adults (18+ years) with High Blood Pressure: The usual dosage is 40 mg twice a day.
  • Dosage for Kids and Infants: Initial dose is 2 mg per kg of body weight administered once daily. Dosage may be increased by 1 mg to 2 mg per kg of body weight every 6 to 8 hours as necessary. The maximum daily dosage is 6 mg per kg of body weight.

The dosage is highly individualized and adjusted based on the patient's condition and response. Use the lowest effective dose.

Contraindications

Avoid use in individuals with known hypersensitivity to the compound or to related sulfonamide derivatives. It is also contraindicated in patients who are unable to urinate (anuria), those with significant depletion of body electrolytes, or those suffering from severe liver impairment that causes neurological complications.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

The compound is excreted in maternal milk and may suppress the production of milk. Alternative feeding methods are recommended if use is deemed necessary during this period.

Special Precautions

  • Regular monitoring of body fluid and mineral levels, particularly potassium, is necessary throughout treatment.
  • Careful consideration is needed for individuals with pre-existing low blood volume or low blood pressure.
  • Special vigilance is required for those with diabetes or gout, as the compound may influence blood glucose and uric acid levels.

Is it safe to take it with other medications?

Concomitant use with aminoglycoside antibiotics may increase the risk of hearing-related side effects. The compound can also interact with certain non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents, potentially reducing its effectiveness. Blood pressure should be monitored when taken with other anti-hypertensive products.

How should I store it?

Keep the tablets stored in a dry place at a temperature below 30°C. Ensure the product is protected from exposure to direct light.
