ZEUXITIN Cefoxitin 1g Powder for Injection is used for treating a wide range of serious bacterial infections caused by susceptible organisms. This potent antibiotic is primarily indicated for intra-abdominal infections, pelvic infections, lower respiratory tract infections, and infections of the urinary tract. It is also used in the treatment of septicaemia and for infection prophylaxis during various surgical procedures like gynecological and colorectal surgeries.

Side Effects

Directions and Dosage
- Dosage for Adults (18+ years): 1 gram to 2 grams every 8 hours. For severe infections, the dosage can be increased up to 12 grams daily.
- Dosage for Kids (3 months+): 80-160 mg/kg of body weight per day, divided into 4 to 6 equally spaced administrations.
- Dosage for Infants (1 - 4 weeks old): 20-40 mg/kg of body weight every 8 hours.
- Dosage for Infants (up to 1 week old): 20-40 mg/kg of body weight every 12 hours.
Maximum daily dosage should not exceed 12 grams. Not recommended for infants under 3 months for the treatment of general infections.
Contraindications
Avoid using this product in individuals with a known severe sensitivity or allergic reaction to this class of antibiotics. It is also not suitable for patients who have previously experienced a severe allergic reaction to penicillin-type antibiotics due to the potential for cross-reactivity.
Special Precautions
- Adjustments in administration frequency may be necessary for those with reduced kidney function.
- Monitor closely for signs of a new infection, especially prolonged or severe diarrhea, which can occur during or after use.
- Exercise caution in individuals with a history of seizures, as this medication may make the condition worse.
Is it safe to take it with other medications?
Taking this medication concurrently with some blood-thinning agents may increase the risk of bleeding. Using it alongside other compounds known to affect kidney function may also heighten the risk of kidney issues.
