MONUROL Fosfomycin 3g - 1 Sachet

Indications / Uses

MONUROL is used for treating uncomplicated urinary tract infections like acute cystitis caused by susceptible bacteria. It provides broad-spectrum coverage against common pathogens including E. coli and Enterococcus faecalis. This single-dose antibiotic is particularly effective for lower urinary tract infections in women and may be used for perioperative prophylaxis in urological procedures.

Formulation / Ingredients
MONUROL contains: Fosfomycin trometamol 3g (equivalent to fosfomycin 5.631g)

Side Effects

MONUROL common side effects include: gastrointestinal disturbances like diarrhea, nausea, and abdominal pain. Some users may experience headaches or dizziness. Rare reactions involve hypersensitivity manifestations such as skin rashes or vaginal inflammation. Discontinue use if severe reactions occur.

Directions and Dosage

• Adults and adolescents (12+ years): One 3g sachet dissolved in water as a single dose
• Children under 12: Dosage based on body weight: 40-50mg/kg once daily

Not recommended for infants under 6 months. Maximum treatment duration: single dose for uncomplicated UTIs. For recurrent infections, a second dose may be taken after 24-48 hours.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to fosfomycin or trometamol components. Severe renal impairment with creatinine clearance below 10 mL/min. Avoid in patients undergoing dialysis due to inadequate clearance.

Special Precautions

• Monitor renal function in patients with pre-existing kidney conditions
• Use cautiously in diabetic patients due to sucrose content
• Maintain adequate hydration during treatment
• Discontinue if severe diarrhea or allergic reactions develop

Is it safe to take it with other medications?

Potential interactions may reduce effectiveness when taken with metoclopramide. Maintain 2-hour separation from calcium supplements or antacids. Generally compatible with most antibiotics but avoid concurrent administration.

How should I store it?

Store below 25°C in original packaging. Keep sachet sealed until use. Protect from moisture and direct sunlight. Discard prepared solution immediately after consumption.
