HISTAKON Betahistine 8mg is used for the treatment of Ménière's disease. This condition is characterized by a triad of core symptoms which include feeling dizzy (vertigo), ringing in the ears (tinnitus), and a loss or difficulty of hearing. It also provides symptomatic relief for vertigo of peripheral origin. The mechanism involves improving blood flow in the inner ear, which helps to reduce fluid pressure, thereby alleviating the related symptoms.

Side Effects

HISTAKON Betahistine 8mg common side effects include: headache, nausea, and indigestion (dyspepsia). While generally well-tolerated, some individuals may experience mild stomach issues such as vomiting, abdominal pain, bloating, or diarrhea, which can often be lessened by taking the dose with food. Rare but more serious reactions include skin conditions like hives, rash, or intense itching, and in very rare instances, severe allergic reactions.

Directions and Dosage

• Dosage for Adults (18+ years): Initial treatment is 8 mg to 16 mg, 3 times daily. The recommended total daily dose ranges from 24 mg to 48 mg.

Do not exceed a maximum daily dose of 48 mg. Not recommended for use in individuals under 18 years of age. Improvement may not be apparent until two weeks after starting treatment, with optimal results often seen after several months of continued use.

Contraindications

Avoid taking this if you have a known sensitivity to the active ingredient or any component of the formulation. It is also contraindicated for individuals with a rare tumor of the adrenal gland, as the medication may induce the release of certain compounds, potentially leading to a sharp rise in pressure.

Special Precautions

• Individuals with a history of or existing stomach ulcers should be monitored.
• Caution is advised for those who suffer from asthma or other conditions with a bronchospastic component.
• Existing allergic skin conditions, such as nettle rash or allergic rhinitis, may be aggravated.

Is it safe to take it with other medications?

Concomitant use with antihistamines may reduce the therapeutic effect of the product. Additionally, using it with other types of histamine-related blockers might require careful consideration.
