Indications / Uses
Paracetamol + Tramadol is used for the short-term management of acute moderate to severe pain. This combination medication combines the analgesic effects of paracetamol and tramadol to provide effective pain relief. It's often prescribed when other pain relievers alone are insufficient. It is important to note that it's not intended for chronic pain management.
Side-effects
Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, constipation, dizziness, drowsiness, and headache. More serious side effects, though less common, can include seizures, allergic reactions, and respiratory depression. Prolonged use can lead to dependency. If you experience any severe or persistent side effects, consult your doctor immediately.
Dosage / Direction
1-2 tab(s) 4-6 hourly as needed. Max: 8 tabs daily.
May be taken with or without food. Swallow whole, do not divide/chew/crush.
Contraindications
This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to paracetamol, tramadol, or any of the excipients. It is also contraindicated in acute intoxication with alcohol, hypnotics, centrally acting analgesics, opioids, or psychotropic drugs. It is not recommended for patients with uncontrolled epilepsy.
Special Precautions
Caution should be exercised when administering DUO-GESIC to patients with a history of seizures, head injury, increased intracranial pressure, or metabolic disorders. It should be used with caution in patients with renal or hepatic impairment. This medication can impair mental or physical abilities required for the performance of potentially hazardous tasks, such as driving or operating machinery. It is also important to avoid abrupt discontinuation to prevent withdrawal symptoms.
Is it safe to take it with other drugs?
DUO-GESIC can interact with other medications, including antidepressants, opioids, and other centrally acting drugs. It's crucial to inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking, including over-the-counter drugs and herbal supplements, to avoid potentially dangerous drug interactions. Concurrent use with alcohol or other CNS depressants can increase the risk of serious side effects.
How should I store it?
Conventional/film-coated tab: Store below 30°C. Effervescent tab: Store below 30°C. Protect from moisture.
