Indications / Uses

LEVOCEC Levocetirizine 5mg is used for the symptomatic relief of allergic conditions, including seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis (hay fever), as well as chronic idiopathic urticaria (hives). It effectively reduces symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, itchy or watery eyes, and itching of the nose or throat. As a second-generation antihistamine, it provides relief with a lower tendency to cause drowsiness.

Side Effects

LEVOCEC Levocetirizine 5mg common side effects include: headache, somnolence (drowsiness), dry mouth, fatigue, and asthenia (weakness). Other possible effects include abdominal pain. In children, agitation and restlessness may occur initially.

Directions and Dosage

  • Adults (18+ years): 5 mg once daily.
  • Adolescents (12-17 years): 5 mg once daily.
  • Children (6-11 years): 2.5 mg to 5 mg once daily.
  • Children (2-5 years): 1.25 mg once daily, or 1.25 mg twice daily (oral solution).

Maximum daily dose: 5 mg for adults and children 6 years and older. Not recommended for children under 2 years of age. Dosage adjustments are required for patients with renal impairment. May be taken with or without food.

Contraindications

Known hypersensitivity to levocetirizine, cetirizine, or any component of the formulation. End-stage renal disease or patients undergoing hemodialysis. Renal impairment in children 6 months to 11 years.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

Should be used with caution during pregnancy and lactation. Not recommended unless clearly necessary.

Special Precautions

  • Use with caution in patients with risk factors for urinary retention (e.g., spinal cord lesions, prostatic hyperplasia).
  • May cause somnolence, fatigue, and asthenia; avoid driving or operating machinery if affected.
  • Use with caution in patients with epilepsy or predisposition for convulsions.
  • Mild to moderate renal impairment requires dose adjustment.

Is it safe to take it with other medications?

May increase the CNS depressant effect when used with other CNS depressants or alcohol. May diminish the wheal and flare reactions to skin test antigens.

How should I store it?

Store below 30°C. Keep in the original packaging, protected from light and moisture.
