Indications / Uses

RITEMED Mefenamic Acid 250mg is used for the symptomatic relief of mild to moderate somatic pain, including muscular, traumatic, and dental pain, as well as headaches of most etiologies. It is also indicated for the treatment of primary dysmenorrhea and the reduction of heavy menstrual blood loss. By inhibiting the synthesis of prostaglandins, this medication effectively addresses postoperative pain and various inflammatory conditions in both adults and older children.

Side Effects

RITEMED Mefenamic Acid 250mg common side effects include: gastrointestinal upset such as diarrhea, nausea, and abdominal pain. Some users may experience dizziness, drowsiness, or nervousness. More serious reactions can include gastrointestinal bleeding, peptic ulcers, or skin reactions such as rash and urticaria. In rare cases, it may cause autoimmune hemolytic anemia if used for more than 12 months.

Directions and Dosage

  • Adults (18+ years): 1 to 2 tablets (250 mg to 500 mg) 3 times daily. Do not exceed 1500 mg in 24 hours.
  • Adolescents (14–17 years): 1 tablet (250 mg) 3 times daily.

Not recommended for children under 14 years of age. Maximum treatment duration for acute pain is 7 days. For dysmenorrhea, treatment should start with the onset of bleeding and continue as long as symptoms persist.

Contraindications

Known hypersensitivity to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Active ulceration or chronic inflammation of the upper or lower gastrointestinal tract. Severe renal or hepatic impairment and pre-existing gallbladder disease. Use during the third trimester of pregnancy or post-coronary artery bypass graft surgery is prohibited.

Special Precautions

  • Take with food or milk to minimize gastrointestinal irritation.
  • Avoid use if severe diarrhea occurs during treatment.
  • Caution is required in patients with a history of hypertension, cardiac disease, or asthma.
  • Discontinue use if any skin rash or visual disturbances develop.

Is it safe to take it with other medications?

Concurrent use with anticoagulants like warfarin may increase the risk of bleeding. It may decrease the effectiveness of diuretics and antihypertensive agents while increasing the toxicity of lithium, methotrexate, and aminoglycosides.

How should I store it?

Store in a cool, dry place at temperatures not exceeding 30°C. Keep the tablets in their original packaging to protect them from light and moisture.
