MOTILIUM Domperidone 10mg is used for the relief of nausea and vomiting, as it acts as a specific blocker of certain receptors to facilitate stomach and intestinal movement. It is also indicated for the symptomatic treatment of various dyspeptic conditions often associated with slow gastric emptying, such as a feeling of fullness after a meal, bloating, and upper abdominal discomfort. This medicine speeds up peristalsis, helping food move quickly through the digestive tract. It is frequently utilized for issues like gastroparesis and reflux esophagitis.

Side Effects

MOTILIUM Domperidone 10mg common side effects include: dry mouth, headache, and occasional dizziness or drowsiness. Gastrointestinal disturbances such as abdominal discomfort, diarrhea, or loose stools may also occur. A more serious risk, particularly with higher amounts or in older users, is an increased chance of irregular heart rhythms or cardiac events. Less common effects involve changes in hormone levels, potentially leading to breast tenderness, enlargement, or irregular menstrual cycles in women.

Directions and Dosage

• Dosage for Adults and Adolescents (12+ years and over 35 kg): 10 mg up to 3 times daily.
• Maximum Daily Dosage: Do not exceed a total amount of 30 mg in 24 hours.

Not recommended for children under 12 years of age or weighing less than 35 kg. Maximum treatment duration should not normally exceed 7 days.

Contraindications

Avoid use if there is a known sensitivity to the components or if there is a tumor that releases a certain hormone in the brain. It should not be used by individuals with existing heart rhythm problems, severe imbalances of blood minerals, or underlying cardiac conditions. It is also contraindicated if there is internal bleeding, a blockage, or a tear in the digestive tract, or in cases of moderate to severe liver dysfunction.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

The component is found in breastmilk. Caution should be exercised when the preparation is given to a woman who is breastfeeding. Its effects on an unborn baby are not fully established.

Special Precautions

• Use the lowest effective amount and for the shortest possible duration due to an increased risk of heart rhythm disturbances.
• Individuals over 60 years old or those taking high daily amounts are at a greater risk of heart-related issues.
• Discontinue the intake immediately if any signs of heart rhythm problems occur.
• Caution is needed in the presence of mild kidney or liver disorders.

Is it safe to take it with other medications?

Concomitant use with other preparations that affect heart rhythm, particularly those that prolong the electrical intervals of the heart, must be avoided due to severe risk. It should also not be taken with strong inhibitors of a specific enzyme system in the body. Certain other medications, like those for depression or fungal infections, may reduce its effects.

How should I store it?

Store at a temperature below 25°C, away from heat and moisture. Keep the tablets in their original packaging and in a dry place.
