MELMAG Aluminum / Magnesium 200mg / 100mg Suspension is used for the symptomatic relief of hyperacidity, which includes discomforts such as heartburn, sour stomach, and acid indigestion. This combination antacid effectively neutralizes excess gastric acid to provide fast, soothing relief. It is indicated for managing conditions like peptic ulcer disease, gastritis, erosive gastroduodenal lesions, and reflux esophagitis.

MELMAG Aluminum / Magnesium 200mg / 100mg Suspension contains: Aluminum Hydroxide 200mg + Magnesium Hydroxide 100mg (per 5mL)

Side Effects

MELMAG Aluminum / Magnesium 200mg / 100mg Suspension common side effects include: changes in bowel habits, which may present as mild constipation or diarrhea, though the combination of ingredients is designed to balance these effects. Other effects reported are mild symptoms like nausea, a chalky taste, and stomach cramps. Long-term use or excessive doses, especially in individuals with kidney impairment, may rarely lead to elevated aluminum and magnesium levels in the body, which can result in toxicity.

Directions and Dosage

• Dosage for Adults (18+ years): 10 to 20 mL (2 to 4 teaspoons) four times daily.
• Dosage for Kids 9–12 years: 5 to 10 mL (1 to 2 teaspoons) four times daily.
• Dosage for Kids 4–8 years: 2.5 to 5 mL (½ to 1 teaspoon) four times daily.

Do not take the maximum recommended dose for more than 14 consecutive days. Not recommended for children under 4 years old.

Contraindications

Avoid use if there is a known hypersensitivity or allergic reaction to the active substances. This product should not be used in cases of severe kidney impairment or renal failure. Individuals experiencing symptoms of appendicitis, intestinal obstruction, or fecal impaction should also avoid taking it. Not suitable for those with certain metabolic disorders or existing low phosphate levels.

Special Precautions

• Use with caution in individuals with renal impairment or dehydration, as this increases the risk of product accumulation in the body.
• Treatment should be limited to short periods; discontinue use if discomfort or symptoms persist beyond 14 days.
• Caution is advised for patients on a low-phosphate diet, as the aluminum component can bind phosphate, potentially leading to a deficiency.

Is it safe to take it with other medications?

This product can significantly reduce the absorption of several simultaneously administered medications, including certain antibiotics, iron supplements, and specific heart medications. To avoid potential drug interactions and ensure efficacy, separate the administration of this product from other oral medications by at least 2 hours.

How should I store it?

Store this medicine at room temperature, ideally between 15°C and 30°C. Keep the original container tightly closed and ensure it is protected from moisture, excessive heat, and freezing temperatures.
